Now that I have put the Thaxted thread to bed for the foreseeable future, I have decided to put the buildings etc to use on a new smaller O gauge layout.
Paul L commented on one of his threads about building his take on the Gauge O Guilds £100 layout.
A very compact layout using the Halstead trackplan.
Taking this a step further, after joining the O Gauge Guild at Doncaster and getting the same intro publication that Paul got his inspiration from, I'm going to go for the small is beautiful theme!

I will post up a track plan later.
It hopefully will be around 9ft long by 2ft wide. Much more manageable :).

    Cheer's for now, Pete.

    Welcome to the Guild Pete,

Do you plan on going to the Summer show at Doncaster?

Seems a bit strange to be downsizing to O gauge from OO, and you wonder why I get confused :scratchchin: :avatar:

At this rate we'll be affiliated to the Gauge O guild

    Looking forward to the plan.

Right, after much faffing around, I have managed to sort out a track plan on Anyrail. It has taken a while to figure out how to share it as my picture editing tool would not recognise it and the forums gallery didn't want to know but anyhoo I think I have sussed it and, fingers crossed, this is it.

    Thaxham trackplan.jpg

The top siding is to an end loading dock. Straight on from the 3 way is the station and platform and through to a fiddle yard. Right from the 3 way is a head shunt approx 18" enough for an 060 tank and a couple of wagons or an 060 tender loco, J15 or similar.
The third road is to a run round then two sidings, the left to a private siding for an animal feed warehouse, the right to a basic goods yard.
Above the top headshunt will be a loco servicing area with a coal stage and water crane.
The extreme left above the private siding is the fiddle area, partly fronted and covered by the warehouse building. I am thinking of having a short turntable if I can squeeze it in so I can turn whole trains to save handling, one will see.

The trackplan has been drawn up using Peco 00 images as I cannot find any 3 way point templates in O scale, so the plan as drawn is for illustration only.

I will try and get some more detailed plans drawn up with better measurements soon. Especially the head shunt end as the 3 way point I have is bigger than the one drawn.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Hi Ron, no mate thats why I had to use the 00 templates. I went through all the O gauge templates that Anyrail list but no 3 ways. As I said the drawing is only for illustration so you guys can see what the plan is!
Can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get rattled in :avatar:

Lenz make a 3-way point in O gauge that will mate up quite nicely with Peco.
    It's actually made by Peco!!!

    Lenz product code 45036

    Can be found here: http://www.aandhmodels.co.uk/track-74-c.asp

Done a little more faffing and I have done away with the 3 way point, which means I can use C&L O scale templates so the design is more like the finished article.
The overall size will be 9ftx2ft.
    See what you think.

    Cheer's, Pete.
Thanks for the heads up David, I already have a 3 way, built from a Marcway kit.
I will have a look at the Lenz point, if it looks better than mine I may invest!!

    Cheer's, Pete.

Personally I get a lot out of it, but 'many' do not, according to many of the more vocal members of the Guild forum:rolleyes:.

Sadly those vocal few want (to the point of demanding!) change but they expect the unpaid volunteers who run the Guild to be experts in everything, available 24 hours a day to make information available to them at the drop of a hat and don't want to do anything themselves to help effect said change.

Sorry Pete for digressing from your thread, I generally steer clear of such debates but much of what has been said on the GOG forum recently has wound me up. I will climb back off my soapbox and do some modelling now....

    Hi Rob and Pete,
I've never posted there but do likewise get a lot out of it particularly with the Gazette ... so sorry also Pete I really am not piggybacking on your thread, but make a point to avoid politics if at all possible. That's what makes Platform 1 such an enjoyable place to be part of.

I have only just got my welcome pack and only yesterday got my password for the Guild site.
I have had a look at the forum, very familiar format as they use ZenForo so easy to navigate. And the E&T sales, the gallery etc. I think though the best part-for me-is the Gazette, lots of how too's, layout features and the adverts, some of which I've only seen there.
However I think I will stick with our forum for posting on as I reckon out of the lot I am a member of, it is the friendliest of them all. We have a great mix of abilities, scales modelled and eras.

    Pete.

Sadly I have been known to count rivets but only on my own models. Life's far too short to count them on someone else's efforts:cool:

The way I look at it Toto is that good modelling is good modelling irrespective of scale or period modelled.

Now the weather has improved I have been out and purchased some timber for the base boards. I already have some 4mm and 9mm ply so just bought some soft wood, 18x74 to cut into 75mm lengths and some 18x44 to make the legs.
I am going for sides and ends made up of 75mm x 1350mm 4mm ply with softwood blocks sandwiched between glued and tacked together. Ends 75mm x 750mm.
I will post up some photos once I have made a start.

    Cheer's, Pete.
