G'day Steve, Welcome aboard from a warm and muggy Sydney. Loads of great topics, hints, tips and great layouts for you to cast your eyes over. Looking forward to reading about your own model railway adventures. Enjoy the banter and camaraderie of P1MRC. Cheers, Gary.
and a warm from a very snowy Dundee Glad you decided to join us here at platform1mrc were a friendly bunch who love to blether about model railways, and probably anything else as well. We have even been known to do a spot of modelling. Settle in and when you're ready please introduce yourself to the forum, we'd love to hear about yourself, your modelling interests and your modelling adventures - were nosey that way Once again welcome to the forum Paul
Thank you all very much. I apologies for my belated response. I should look more closely into the site and the different Forums. Maybe I should also have a more recognisable name/nickname. I have been interested in model railways for all of my life (no surprise to all in this Forum, I guess), but due to family and work commitments have done little about it. An enthusiast mate and I have been attending model railway shows in Sydney for about the last ten years. By chance we ran into this bloke called Gormo in the queue for the Epping show a few years ago and he mentioned the "Your Model Railway Club" web site. It is a good site with a natural progression to this site. I am in the embryonic stage of building a layout in a 6m x 6m mezzanine inside a farm shed in the Hunter Valley in NSW. Yes, heat and will be an issue, particularly based on the the summer we have just had. It will be an HO layout with an Australian theme (I think), with a bit of Narrow Gauge (HOe) included. I have 3 x EMD switchers from Broadway Ltd, an HO Shay from Bachmann and a HOe Roco loco with wagons. The rest is yet to follow I would like to do a separate bit of On30 as well, maybe as a shelf layout. I have an On30 Shay and a Climax with DCC and sound from Bachmann. The quality of these models is excellent, and they are quite spectacular with DCC and sound. Looking at the Members Personal Layouts Forum, and my progress so far, the On30 shelf layout may materialise first. Thanks again Steve
Hi Steve, Delighted to hear from you. There have been many modellers found us here through Gormo I'm glad to say. There are a few good forums to whet your whistle with and are all a great source of information and inspiration. Sounds like you are going to have your hands full with your upcoming layouts so feel free to start your threads and let us share an insight into what you have in mind. even if you are not quite ready to lay track or make a definite start, you can always post up your thoughts on your track plan. Again, if you are just breaking the ice, your track plan will probably change numerous times until you finally get to where you want to be. that's part of the fun of it. the good thing is that you will get all the support and encouragement that you'll need right here so ....... post away. Any questions .... no matter how simple or complex, we like to answer them or at least try. usually someone can chip in and offer guidance. The main thing to remember is you don't have to take it .... nobody will be offended, after all its your layout and Rule 1 applies. You are also in very good company over in Sydney as there are loads of great modellers right on your doorstep. They usually attend many of the shows over in your neck of the woods so there is always a chance of a meet up ( if that suits you, no obligation ) and the odd beer. Keep your eye on the " Railway Mans Club " area of the forum as you will see where everyone is attending and now and again, they are looking for operators to assist at exhibitions etc. I hope you enjoy your time with us. Cheers for now toto
Hi Steve, As Toto pointed out regarding the 'Railwayman's Club', a bunch of us are gathering for the Rosehill exhibition in June. Both SMR Chris and Myself will have three layouts on display, (including other P1MRC members and P1MRC facebook friends) so if you are coming down, make yourself well known. We may even entice you to pick up the controller and have a play ! Cheers, Gary.
Hi Gary. Thanks very much. I will be there and will come and say hello. Taking over the controller is another matter. I can muck up well enough on my own length of test track. Thanks again Steve
I don't think you can muck up too much on my layouts. One is 6' long, the other is only 4' long !! Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Gary Appreciate your confidence. Looking forward to catching up with a few from the Platform team at Epping. Regards Steve
Hi Ian. I am in total agreement. I grow a bit of the "fruit of the vine" and by some magic, others turn it into something red that I can drink, and enjoy drinking ( all in the name of product development). Regards Steve
