Let me know how you get on.

It will be tomorrow now before I progress with the roof etc. I'll maybe even get the paint sorted for the windows. an undercoat first then the final colour. if everything goes ok with that, I may even try weathering them down a bit. They wont get glued in until the main structure has been painted.

I'm also looking at fitting lights both externally and internally. that's all to come later though.

    cheers for now

    Well,

its Friday and I feel in a gambling mood. :avatar: the gamble being using my colron wood stain in this build. I don't think it would do it any harm. A very thin coat almost dry brushed on. Because its oil based, it would let me use my usual emulsion method to do the mortar courses once the colron dries out. If it all goes belly up ...... there will be a way to recover it.

Yes ...... I've just talked myself into it.

    cheers

    Well,

I think it paid off ....... I started with this ......

had to stick a couple of thin laminates on the ends ........

lost the first load of Colron ........ like this .......

    then got started .......

it goes on pretty unevenly but to its advantage I think ........

I can do another coat but I'll wait until the first coat dries before deciding. My experience is that its soaks in in and dulls down.

It may not need mortar courses as it looks not bad but lets wait until it dries. I will paint the sills, probably a concrete grey. I will have to spray the window frames before installing, like wise the doors. I'll look at building the roof meanwhile.

    cheers

The Colron dye method is very convincing Toto, it gives a gentle weathered look.

Glad you like it. I am thinking if a brush over with a diluted emulsion and a wipe off to achieve the mortar courses. still torn between two methods.

    cheers

I hope to get around to the airbrushing of the doors and windows tomorrow after I get the roof built. The roof comes with a choice of tiles or corrugations. I think I'll go for the later, it'll let me get some practice in with rust streaking ....... :avatar:

    Looking good Toto.

Can I see bare areas of wood where the pva has been left to dry and the Colron did not adhere, along the butresses and under the window lintels ??

I'm guessing the only way to hide this is to either hide with weathering or the use of enamel paints... ;)

    Cheers, Gary.

    Yes,

I'll weather some of these areas away Gary. I can spray the kit over with a matt varnish to provide adhesion the a wash of some kind.

Along the butresses, you could use 3 or 4mm diameter styrene tube to represent down pipes.

    Cheers, Gary.

Gave the windows a coat of acrylic paint. Not great coverage even after a couple of coats so hit them with a matt enamel. Much more solid. I'll post a couple of pictures up once they have dried out a bit. Sitting in the pub right now having a well deserved beer ........ Or three.

    Cheers

Question..., are you priming the timber first with wood primer ?? Wood will soak up paint like a sponge without priming first. One coat of primer followed by two applications of colour should do the trick.:thumbs:

Humbrol produce a primer in a rattle can : https://www.humbrol.com/uk-en/1-grey-primer-matt-150ml-acrylic-spray-paint.html

    Cheers, Gary.
