Saw one of these being demo'd at York http://www.mylocosound.co.uk/?produ...m-0-75mm-and-1-00mm-styluses-and-instructions Just placed an order for the four nib set and just to let you see how they are supposed to work Paul
Very impressive Paul, thanks for sharing. Just tried to order a set on his web page but at check out it says they do not deliver to Australia. I’ll contact him by phone tomorrow and see if we can sort it out. Kim
I must have missed this at York! Not sure at 71 that I have a steady enough hand to try this as I normally use decals, which can be quite expensive, over £30 for a set for an unrebuilt Merchant Navy loco in 00 gauge. I could see me spending more time cleaning off and starting again after I'd 'fluffed-it! Keith.
Well, after some encouragement from Mrs M, I decided to go for it. I have a DJH rebuilt "Merchant Navy" and Keyser "Lord Nelson" kits to build yet, so if I use these pens rather than decals, they'll have paid for themselves.........that's my excuse anyway, and another 'skill' to learn. Every day's a 'School Day'! Keith.
Well impressed with that demo Paul . You will have to let us know how you get on. I would like to line out my Barclay as the green is a bit bland on its own. A few years ago I built two Ashover light railway coaches in O16.5. They were originally lined gold. SWMBO had some gold and silver gel pens so I thought-give it a go! Worked an absolute treat! I was worried that when I varnished it later it may melt the ink but no, not a problem. Cheer's Pete.
I have one of these, I use it for lining coaches. Although I do prefer my bow pen for most things I do use it.
Missed it, you even took a photo at the stand of the knotty electric loco, it was the painting demo stand next to your old mate Paul (tother one)
I’ve got one of these lining sets Kim I picked it up from someone in WA who was selling O scale items on eBay so guessing he must have got it posted
Sorted, just spoke to Chris and there’s one set on it’s way over. Seems his online order system can’t handle overseas orders, but if any one else outside of the UK is interested just send him an email order. Kim
Oh is that who you were on convo with I did briefly notice that workshop demo... yes that's when I met up with that chap from Stoke who I hadn't seen for near on 30 years.
see you should have been paying more attention , next you'll be getting homework from Toto hopefully these will arrive soon Paul
Got my lining pen kit this morning, not tried it yet, but for the attention of those in the East Midlands area there was a 'flyer' included for a Live Steam Gauge 1 model railway exhibition, Saturday 14th July, 10.00am/16.30pm at Bakewell Agricultural Business Centre, Bakewell Derbyshire DE45 1AH (that's on the A6 from Matlock to Buxton). As Bakewell is about 6 miles from my home, I'll likely be going to that, any other forum members who might be going, just shout up, might be another meetup in the offing! Keith.
Mine too ..... Well packaged, and prompt delivery - looking good so far. and inside ...... A padded hard case with the nibs with cleaning wires in individual boxes, pen holder and instructions, plus a syringe, not sure if this is for filling the paint reservoirs or for injecting the drugs to steady my hand The nibs insert into the pen holders. Now just got to test one - maybe later, the boss calleth ....... Paul
Hi Paul, It's not for either, its for cleaning the nibs out. - Fill with white spirit and squirt it through the nib.
I anticipate using Acrylic paints with mine as I don't normally use enamels, though this might change, depending on results. Keith.
Hi Keith, I have used acrylics through mine the only problem is them drying faster although you can get additives that slow down the drying rate of acrylics. If you are using acrylics then soaking them in hot water is the easiest way to get them clean. I only use hot water these days to clean my airbrush it saves a fortune on specialist cleaners and I haven't had any issues with it as long as I clean it thoroughly.
Hi Rob. I have a bottle of the 'Windsor & Newton' flow improver, although never needed to use it yet. Thinners/cleaners-wise, I normally use 66% distilled water to 33% Isopropyl Alcohol and that seems to work well for me. Primers and base black I use 'rattle cans', colours usually 'Railmatch' for spraying mostly, occasionally Humbrol if I need it quickly as the nearest model shop seems to only stock that brand. I shall definitely need to get some practice in first before I risk it on a finished body!. Keith.
Hi Keith, I used to do similar to you, a mix of IPA or specialist Vallejo airbrush cleaner but found out by accident that hot water does the same job. It's also good if you ever manage to forget cleaning something that has acrylic paint on, soak it in hot water and it will bring it off.
