Picked up a laser cut bridge for Luib Bridge today at the Perth Exhibition. Cant remember the manufactureres name off the top off my head but will post up further details tomorrow along with some pictures of the kit. This will help provide a scenic break between the baseboard and the traverser.

    More tomorrow

    Cheers

Here we are for a quick view of the various parts for the bridge build. ......

    the destructions .....

pretty well detailed with good photographs of the parts ....

some of the secondary stiffner parts .....

    and the finished surfaces .......

    and wing walls etc ........

and bridge decks and more supports etc.

    a nice kit.

    cheers

    Well,

The kit has been dusted down, camera on charge and the destructions have been read a few times to get the gist of the build. Fairly straight forward with no foreseeable issues other than just trying to keep the various supports true and straight.

Just looking out a fine brush for the application of the glue. I have plenty and a larger flat type brush for the covering of larger areas.

You see what I'm using once the pictures start coming through.

    Cheers for now

    And we're off ........

    destructions at the ready ......

and my tools of choice ......

1st up is the construction of the arch former ....... more about the purpose of that later .....

there are wee MDF spacers that go between the bridge supports to help keep it all upright and square .....

and it repeats itself until .........

Now ...... that is left to set dry ..... and we start the main bridge structure itself .....

there is a structural layer and a fascia layer glued together and then stuck down to the bridge deck via pre cut tabs. Again, you'll notice that as we progress gluing in the intermediate supports, there are wee spacers that are glued in between each of the support layers in order to make it all a bit more ridgid.

and that is as far as I have got at the moment. took a break to pour a coffee and post up. now its back on to the build. i'll post up my progress later

    cheers

    cheers

That's a substantial piece of kit, are you sure your baseboards can take it

:avatar: baseboards are heavy duty. here is the next batch which see's the main structure complete with internal arched brick roof ......

there is where we left off.

then we bend and jamb the brick arched roof in to place. Now ....... here is the clever bit ( I think anyway )

The former ( as built as the beginning ) is dropped into place and clamped. This holds the arched roof tight against the formers ( glued of course ) .

    a shot from underneath .........

and the other way around ........

and the former removed once the glue is dried out.

This gives a pretty solid structure. The rest of the wall finishes and parapets etc still to go but the hard part is over. More tomorrow.

    cheers for now

Wow! What a great piece of engineering. Looks like it would take the weight of a real loco.

It would even take the weight of Pauls wallet. :D It is a very strong build. Pricey but worth the money. I'll be back on the case soon.

    Cheers

    Well,

To all intents and purposes, the bridge build is complete. Will still need painting and lights fitted but I'll get that done. Just letting the overall structure dry out now.

I'm pretty pleased with the build and I'm sure it will look the doo dars once in place.

I'll post up the last of the progress pictures later when SWMBO gets back n to take over doggie duties.

Cheers for now, I'm off to look at the goods shed destructions ..... Again.

Thats 3 to 8 times the price of an OO equivalent! So glad I am not doing O gauge!
Looks incredible sturdy! Although I hear it needs to be for one of your engines!!!
I will be interested in how the paint job turns out, I have yet to try painting a laser kit. (very tempted to buy a signal box as a tester, but a bridge might be cheaper to play with)

    Hi Timbersurf,

I'm still looking at the best way to attempt the painting myself as I have a goods shed to build which is made of the same material with loads of fine detail. So ........ To be decided. Possibly spray on a fine undercoat followed by some dry brushing techniques. I'm a bit reluctant to take it much further at the moment for the fear of botching it.

I will post up as usual when I get round to attacking it though.

    Cheers

I would check out Steve Fays painting methods on his signal box etc. The results he gets are awesome.

    Cheer's, Pete.
