well with all this talk of Royal weddings, I thought I'd grab a Duchess of my own. Ain't no Megan Markle but this one is every bit as much high maintenance only with a slightly different type of firebox.

Should be on its way from Ellis Clark soon along with the ACME kits Stanier mogul

Unfortunately I'll be in Cyprus when it arrives but should be on my doorstep for getting back. Pictures on my return.

    Cheers for now.

    Cheers

It's not going with you - mankini, soldering iron, selection of solders and fluxes, and Megan, what more could you need - maybe an apron as any solder spatters when wearing the mankini may cause the eyes to water.

Great stuff Toto, it will be interesting to see what the differences are in the remade resin firebox, when a spoke to Dave and Trish they said some of the white metal components that were being replaced with lost wax had been held up and the new fireboxes would be ready somewhere in September. Mine will be 46254 City of Stoke on Trent and finished with LMS pattern lining in Maroon and BR rampant Lion emblem. Any thoughts on how you will livery your Duchess?

    Hi York Paul,

Not really. I am not the most knowledgeable on liveries and period a but I think it's a welded tender variation that I have which should date it as a later version. If that's the case I believe Brunswick green with a late crest may be ok. I stand to be corrected though.

This will be a commission build I think ax I would like a good job done on it. I'll concentrate on the smaller simpler builds. Any advice is greatfully received. Especially to the choice of variation in liveries that I could choose between.

    Cheers

    Toto

As I understand it in later years the Scottish allocated Duchesses (46222/23/24/27/30/31/32/42 where kept in Loco Green (Deep Bronze Green) and many of the LMR Crewe, Camden and Carlisle allocations were later repainted into Maroon with LMS style straw and black lining, I'm not sure if 46249 City of Sheffield was in Loco Green when transferred to 66A Polmadie in 1963. Don't forget 46220 and 46221 came south to Crewe in 1959 then later went north again to Carlisle in 1963.

The LMS maroon would have been my livery of choice. A nice rich regal looking livery.

Are all those whitemetal castings packed individually like the DJH kits have? - I ask because that probably means that it's a recent Gladiator kit because I am sure that David and Trishia Hill introduced that style of packing after they took over the range.

One of the more recent offerings then. Are you going to talk to David about a replacement firebox casting?
