Having seen the new 'Narrow Gauge Layout' area being created here, I thought maybe I'd start up a new Fablewood thread as opposed to my old one (http://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/index.php?threads/fablewood-coed-y-chwedlau.395/).

Any new updates and progress reports will be posted here.

Fablewood is currently inactive, having had no major outings so far in 2018. However, the layout is expected to appear at Warrington in October, and Rainhill in November. Therefore, some work may be in order.

    Stay tuned!

    A wee update...

On the rolling stock front, two of the Peco four-wheel bolster wagons finally have a load to justify their use. Using five wooden ice lolly sticks (washed and dried beforehand, I should add), I cut them to suitable length and glued them into a triangular formation. They sit very comfortably on the bolsters, but will need securing to stop them sliding down either end. As you can tell in the enclosed photo, this is still a work-in-progress thing as I have yet to paint the formation, and decide whether or not to use string or 00-scale chains. Which is best?

Secondly, you may have noticed the track looking a bit dirty. That's because I've used Humbrol 'brown wash', to represent the state of the track with trains regularly running over it. There is still a bit to do on this, particularly in the station area. Black weathering powder may be used to represent oil sludge, coal and what have you...

The MiniTrains Bagnall 0-4-0 tank poses on the South curve by the goods yard:

As preparations continue apace for my outings to Warrington and Rainhill respectively, more updates may very well be coming your way. So stay tuned!

Hi David, excellent modelling there mate, regarding the timber load, as it is quite a heavy load I reckon it would have been chained down and secured using turn buckles. I imagine someone will supply fine chain, and etch the turn buckles.

    Pete.

Preparation continues apace for Fablewood's outing to Warrington on 20th and 21st October. So a few minor updates are in order.

Acquired from Wigan in time for Warrington, is a Bachmann WD Class D open bogie wagon in Nocton light grey colours. It is intended to carry interchangeable loads, including ballast and coal.

The bus stop, until now, has been situated outside the station building. However, this has proved to be a bit of a mistake, since the bus would have to go into the goods yard to turn itself around before heading off into Fablewood village. It was therefore decided to change the position of the bus stop, and the queue; moving over to outside the cottages across the road. The following scenes show how this was done...

And how it looked when it was finished...

    DSCN1106.JPG
    DSCN1109.JPG

And on the subject of road vehicles. There were three more recent acquisitions from the Wigan show, of the Oxford Diecast range. See if you can guess what they are...

    DSCN1110.JPG

At the Perth show earlier in the year, a Peco halt and shed were picked up. It was decided to retain the shed and incorporate it onto Fablewood, to act as a storage building. It is currently being painted up; this shot was taken before work started...

Finally for now, a small square piece of foam was measured, cut out and glued onto the goods platform. This will stop the goods yard crane from moving around loosely.

Fablewood had an outing to the Warrington show in October. In the scene below, the new Five79 Freelance diesel loco made its debut. The diesel is seen with a ballast train (one of the wagons being a Bachmann WD bogie wagon), as the GVT loco waits in the opposite platform.

Now to the latest report. Remember that 'load' I was working on? Some A1 chain, scoring the sticks lengthways and a lick of Humbrol 'natural wood' paint later, and this is the result:

Note my second Chris Ward 'double fairlie' loco, which will be making its debut at Rainhill...

Remember the little 'shed' in the goods yard as well? Here it is:

The yard crane has also been tweaked with:

In the station area, lamp posts (Langley Models) have sprung up:

    And new carriages too:

More to follow. Comments welcome as always.

Now ..... That last shot with what looks like an old transit van is cool. I love to see some nostalgia. Great photos as ever David ....... More contenders for POTW I think. Fantastic.

Thanks Toto. That is indeed an early Ford Transit (not sure which Mk it is). Always doing my best to blend different eras, as far as road vehicles are concerned...
