    Right, here we go.

I intend to convert one of these - Slaters North Eastern Railway/LNER 20 ton Hopper Wagon kit

    to this
    [IMG]

This is a prototype for the Bulk Alumina wagons that were used for many years in a few variations for carrying Bulk Alumina to the smelting plants at BurntIsland in Scotland by the LNER and later BR. The image above is copyright Peter Tatlow and is shown here purely to illustrate what I plan to convert the hopper wagon to.

I will have to get my finger out with this one but I have made a start.

    The basic body is assembled.

Well, I managed to get the wagon up on it's wheels on Saturday but a bout of lurgy and a day in bed scuppered the best laid plans. I have worked today but from home and not straying far from the bathroom. Just what I need, not!

Further progress this weekend on the Alumina wagon.

It's up on it's wheels, the brakes are fitted and the false roof is in place with the outer skin started to be fixed in place.

Since taking the photos I have got all but one end of the skin attached but forgot to take a piccie.

This last weekend was one of those where the modelling just flowed and much progress was made on the alumina wagon.

Just the detailing of the hatches and operating levers for the hoppers left before paint.

I see that I need to straighten one of the brake lever guards too.

Well it's going to be touch and go with this one, when did you say the deadline was....
The transfers have arrived from Fox but I have spent almost 11/12 hours interviewing and scoring the resulting applicants and I am too jiggered to do anything tonight so I will be a busy man for the next few nights.

For the last couple of evenings I have been beavering away making the parts for the hinged lids

The last photo is to give an idea of how big they aren't

Sadly this is where my entry ends. A couple of days ago Chris scolded herself quite badly on her abdomen and this morning the blisters burst leaving her in a bit of a state so I won't be doing any modelling for a few days untils she' improved.

Send our best wishes to Chris, and take it easy.

It'll still be good to see the build finished when you get time to complete it.
