Today we had the last Steam Special into Plymouth until 4th April next year. It was the Plymouth Christmas Market and was hauled by 60009 'Union of South Africa'. Images captured in between showers and heavy cloud. Also included are a few shots of Class 800 Nos 800 025 & 800 019. Hope you like them

No. 60009 'Union of South Africa' at Plymouth

    Class 800 Nos. 800 025 & 800 019

    Thats it for a while.

Whilst I'm on here would like to wish all my Viewers the Compliments of the Season and Hope you all have a Happy New Year

Excellent set of pics. I missed the earlier pics dated 26th October, but I will say that No. 70816 on 'The Moorswater Cement' locos are ugly beasts. I just hope they're more functional than what there looks say about them !

Great pics of 60009 UoSA, just a pity about the weather.:thumbs::thumbs:

    Cheers, Gary.

With reference to 60009 Union of South Africa. From what I can gather it is being retired early in the New Year and going into a museum.

That is sad news for Union of South Africa. Hopefully it won't stay static for too long.

    Cheers, Gary.

Had a quick visit to the Plym Valley Railway on Saturday to see what was running the Santa Special. It was No. 705, a Barclay 16inch. Only managed a couple of shots as there were too many 'rugrats' running around and getting in the way.

Also the Sentinel was acting as a water pick up point as they have still to set up the water crane.

To finish the visit I had to capture this little 'Furry Buddha'.

Till next year. Bye for now.

Here are the pics as promised. There is nothing new at the SDR at the moment so just some different angles on old favourites. Some modern stuff as well.

    No. 6412 at Staverton

    No. 6412 at Buckfastleigh

    L92 at Totnes Riverside

Network Rail Rail Head Grinding Equipment at Plymouth North Road in the early morning mist

Class 43 No 43187 'The Welshman' at Totnes

And it wouldn't be a trip to the South Devon Railway without a friendly Owl. Here is an African White-faced Scops Owl.

    Till March.

    Pictures as promised

First we have a 66151 on an Aggregate Run. The gravel is from China Clay waste and is being shipped to Bow in London. It starts at Burngullow near St. Austell and then is shuttled to Exeter where several Exeter/Burngullow/Exeter trips are linked together and shipped overnight making some quite long trains.

Next we have 50007 & 50049 on a Charter Special. They were only outshopped from Eastligh about a week before the trip and looked fantastic. Sorry pics a bit darkish, it was a heavy cloud and drizzle conditions.

Thats it for a couple of weeks. Next lot will be from the SDR 50th Anniversary gala where there will be 4 visiting locos.
    Till then.

In future the pics will be of all aspects of the railway not just preserved stuff. Makes it easier that way and means I won't have to make another Thread to cover the modern stuff.

    50th Anniversary pictures as promised.

    No. 9466 at Buckfastleigh

    No. 1501 at Buckfastleigh

    No. 5526 at Buckfastleigh

    No. 6430 at Buckfastleigh

No. 6412 at Staverton on the 50th Anniversary Train, which was a re-run of the Inaugural Train on the re-opened SDR. It consisted of No 6412 sandwiched between 2 pairs of Autocoaches. It even had the same driver and guard

Andrew Barclay 0-4-0T No 1219 of 1911. Built for Stewarts & Lloyd as their No. 9. It has 10 x 18 cylinders on 3ft wheels and is really tiny.

Have some diesels, models, wagons etc. to go up later in the week. Enjoy.
