Well today the new Steve Beattie BRCW Type 2 diesel kit was delivered safely by the postie and what a nice looking kit it is and indeed what a credit to all Steve's hard efforts and burning of midnight oil over Christmas and New Year... winner is what I say ... superb .

Now Platform 1 have asked me to review and build the kit which will be the Class 27 variant, so I'm going to do 27005 which is a preserved example and it will be turned out in Rail Blue with Scottie Dog logo. Apologies to any folks here if I bomb the airwaves with this O Gauge build but as the Forum Index page right hand column shows we are giving these kits exclusive promotion... cos we are nice people and just too kind for words.:avatar:

Rightie Ho and on with the intro pics, so first things first, inside the box Steve has carefully cardboard wrapped the cab front etches because the area behind the cab hand rail pockets are quite delicate and mustn't be bent. So in the picture the wrapped cab as found inside the box is on the right and on the left is the cab which I've put the white metal spectacle and roof dome casting too, as you can see the castings are nice and smooth and already we are getting the essence of a MacRat... and I haven't even picked up the soldering iron yet.

Now here are the main bodyshell etches all pre rolled to a guideline curvature.

Some of the fine detail etches. My kit has snow ploughs included but that's because I don't do hot climates. :avatar:

    The inner bogie frame etches.

The inner bodyshell skeleton and other bogie detailing etches.

Some castings which include a set of 22 inch Oleo buffers by Markits... so that alone represents a value of £17.

Finally the resin casts, whitemetal casts and 3D printed items.

There is also various lengths of wire and a sheet of clear film to make up the glazing with... I didn't photo these cos I guess we all know what wire looks like and being a tight fist I didn't want to use too much picture space up.:giggle: So I use 1833 motors from Taff Vale and 20:1 gear ratios supplied from Roxey Mouldings on each bogie to balance the weight on the loco equally. You can add Delrin chains if you wish too and I use power pick up contacts on each wheel, the wheelsets come from Slaters and of course draw hooks and shackles are needed, I get mine from Laurie at MM1 because his are nice chunky looking and just like the real thing plus he is in Scotland.:avatar: All in all anyone buying one of these kits will be getting very good value for their money, so now to download and print the manual and away we go. Build starts this week... you have been warned.:avatar::thumbup:

No gears included Toto, Steve prefers 26:1 ratio but I put 20:1 on recommendation from Roxey in mine... same as yours so our loco's can run coupled together as necessary at exhibitions.

Ooo! I need to sort the mould on that headcode box - I think the 26 has suffered as well. Thought I'd get away with it but looking at it urgh!

There's a cock-up on the bogie I need to revise too. Nothing that stops the kit from being bult, just damn annoying.

With the cab roof, the 1/2 etch tab on the cab side will need to be trimmed back a bit and also the final tumble home will need to be formed on the brass roof and the cab side. I forgot to do that on all kits.

27 005 I think is featured on the link I put in the instructions but if not it's here: https://realrail.smugmug.com/Trains/27005-restoration-galley/i-Qv9ZFpT

Just to claryfy something - the 27 had an extra small cross member at one end. The instructions show the 27 underframe as intended. For the 26 take this out. For the 27 both remain.

Also see pic below to explain how parts 2 and the smaller 3 are intended to be fixed and their relationship with the sideframes.

Thanks to Paul for the first revision!

Winner Steve... I'll print that screenshot off and add it into the manual as a supplementary. you have PM asking further info on the seventh cross beam, (only needed on the Class 27 build not the 26 Toto and Dundee and any other takers for this rather super good kit)... I'd like to start the sub assembly this evening but need to clarity first before snipping items off of frets.:scratchchin:

No there should be another Part 24 for all kits. The wrap is there and I found where the part should have been. I'll get that sorted and the etch I'm designing tomorrow. It'll be here in about 2-3 weeks.
