G`day Richard, The flowers are created using a combination of two Gormo`s Sheds. Firstly the flower heads are made using the make your own flocking method I developed using a coffee grinder. The only difference being the colours used. And the flower heads were added to the grass using the method described in Flowers below. Gormo
Moving right along, I bought this little goods shed pre Covid, maybe 12 months or so ago.? from my local model railway shop`s second hand bin. It`s was six dollars AU and is actually HO scale. It came to me with a bright Orange roof and walls, complimented on the inside with bright plastic Yellow. The timber deck was Gloss Brown. Obviously it was off someone`s psychedelic model railway, however the basic structure had possibilities. Fortunately the roof was not attached and still isn`t, which has allowed me to easily get inside and paint out the Yellow walls. The outside is more of a challenge and has had now three coats of acrylic, with the last coat being mostly dry brushing for effect. The windows still need another coat and the odds and sods on the deck need painting. I have also scraped away grass from the area where it will sit and created a worn pathway leading up to the building. I will fit some glazing in behind the windows and doors and build an additional platform for the other end of the building It also needs some signage etc....all the little bits that make a difference. Well it`s a bit nippy out in the shed, so we`ll call full time for the moment and resume probably tomorrow. Gormo
G`day Folks, I`ve made a little extension for the old battered about railway store, out of some Balsa sheet. It just adds a bid more platform space and adds to the rustic charm of the building. The accessories still need to be worked over to remove the plastic look, however the building is nearly ready to be planted. It just needs some signage and the ground underneath needs to be darkened and distressed a bit more. Some clear plastic sheet has been fitted as glazing, as none was present in the original building as received. An extra wooden pier has also been added under the platform where it meets the wooden ramp. It just didn`t look right without so I made one from Balsa. The imperfections in the new decking suit the rest of the rather imperfect building. And the battered ends of the platform look as they should I think.? The glazing is suitably unclean as well..........I think the Superglue played a part in that......but for this building....it`s fine. I think I will scrape out a little pathway over towards the engine shed area to suggest that supplies would be walked or wheeled over there. Part of the pathway will be some barrow crossings across the tracks nearby, which again will be made from the Balsa sheet. More as it happens Gormo
What a lovely little shed and landing extension Gormo, I too found the thin superglue was a great medium to dirty down window panes. I could almost imagine it being a pigeon fancier's hut. It certainly looks the part. Yorkie
Thanks Paul......... Today I`ve ordered some figures for my removable town area plus some market stalls from Scale Model Scenery. So I am now at the mercy of the postal services. Also made a barrow crossing for the little shed / store and more clearly defined some paths to and from the shed. At the moment I`m waiting for glue to dry, so no more work today. The barrow crossing is just made from Balsa, same as the platform extension on the shed, however I have used a thinner sheet this time. The Balsa was then painted with an artists acrylic mixture to simulate wood........well it is wood, but you know what I mean. The central boards sit below rail level so as not to interfere with tension lock droppers and I`ve also got one particular little shunter that hangs particularly low, so had that in mind when checking for clearances. Same applies to the distance off the rails....we dont want any flanges dragging through here. You can see on the right, a pathway going off to the engine shed. The glue is still drying on the path. The grass was scraped away to create the path and then I`ve added a thin layer of fine material to represent a pathway. Looks like it`s always been there Well that`s it for the moment. Gormo
While we`re on the barrow crossing theme, I knocked up one today for the station. With a bit of fudging and tweaking they went in quite well. Of course you have to allow for back to back measurements on your rolling stock when considering the section between the rails and keep the height below rail level, but the compromises are worth it I think. I`ve just noticed a couple of touch ups required, but the overall result with Balsa looks like the real deal. And here is a brief video with a train going through. Needless to say, they have been tested with a variety of rolling stock and no problems have arisen. The other end of the platforms needs some now, and possibly a foot crossing in the center of the platforms.? Gormo
Great finish Gormo and has that nice weathered appearance. Any signs?...." No passenger Access" or "Rail staff only". Cheers and happy modelling Richard
G`day Richard, I`m working on some signs as we speak, plus another little line side shed has gone in. It`s a painted Hornby accessory which came as cream plastic .....very ordinary really....so I went to town with the acrylics and added a window. Gormo
In the video above, I showed the area near Little Bardfield where I intended to change the track flow. That job has now been completed and works much better than before. I had to partially rebuild the point and modify it a little, however it was worth the trouble. I just have to work out a method of operation, build a control panel and wire up some more of the track, plus build a controller...........I`m nearly there.!!!... The Black and squiggly lines of Texta show where the original line of track was, so you can see by comparison with the new track layout, that the flow has been smoothed out. The baseboards now also are a better fit and line up much better with each other, although the baseboard that has the station platform on it still needs some additional support. That should not be too difficult and it`s supposed to be raining tomorrow, so I may be out in the shed forging forward. Gormo
Right folks, Off we go again. I have started building a lever frame to be used on this section of my railway. I am following the same methods I have used in the past for the most part although instead of using connecting rods to activate the points, I will be reducing the footprint by using a wire in tube method. The lever frame build and development of the point control system can be followed in a dedicated thread .......link below. Developing a Manual Point Control System. Now the lever frame needs a box built and I need to make some adjustments to the baseboard framing to fit it into where I want to locate it. Basically, a section the size of the lever frame box housing ( 115mm height x 160mm width ) needs to be removed without affecting the structural integrity of the baseboard ( particle board ). So I have screwed and glued a piece of 40mm x 20mm timber at the back of and below the cut out area, which hopefully will keep everything holding together,........... More as it happens Gormo
