Just had this pop up on my screen from PECO publications Feb 2021 issue has an article on fitting a Hornby TTS sound chip in a Dapol O gauge class 08. I know a few have the Dapol 08 (I know one person with several Dapol 08's and a couple of Brass ones as well, it's alright Toto you're secret is safe with me ) Only draw back is they look like they are as rare as hens teeth. Knowing how it uses far more functions for the lighting alone than some other locos, I’d be interested to see what they loose out on. Hornby decoders arnt that bad actually, it’s the speaker that can let them down. however, having driven and done yard shuts with them from the ground, what seems to lack on this decoder (and the one I stuck in mine) is the motor wine. An 08 doesn’t throttle up on the engine when you move off like other diesels, it’s more or less constant rpm, but the traction motors do the work and like a tram, get higher pitched between notches. I’ve only ever found one 08 decoder do this, and I bought it second hand so have no idea who the sound files were by.
I will be interested in how they go about fitting the TTS decoder as I've bought one and an adapter for my second 08. I will do a comparison between the TTS and Zimo with Paul Chetter sound file in my t'other 08. Cheers, Pete.
Adapter boards for 21 pin to 8 pin are available Andy, I think LaisDCC do one, and probably others as well. Keith.
I picked up an 8 pin to 21 pin adapter from Digitrains at the last show I went to, Doncaster I think. Just not got round to fitting it yet, I've got procrastination down to an art form!! Pete.
I reckon you've had enough on your plate Pete, what with your van saga and the ongoing 'tin shed/workshop' project! Keith.
Hi Pete I get a video unavailable error from Youtube, so the link is getting to youtube, have you shared the video ? Paul
No mate, I've had problems with youtube video sharing for ages, I can never seem to manage it. Probably me doing it wrong Pete.
