I could not help myself so I treat myself to another new wagon. A Dapol 7F-052-004W 5 plank open wagon "Chapman & Sons, Croydon" - weathered.
Thank you Walkingthedog I'm up to two wagons now and my lovely wife is going to purchase the Terrier for me.
Carefull, I ended up with a collie, the boss said she thought I'd look ridiculous walking a terrier, and they were too yappy. Nice selection, it's worth keeping a watch on Dapols site for the specials, occationally they have wagons on sale at a reasonable discount. Although I've not seen any for a while, possibly another victim of covid. Paul
Last year I got two 5 plank wagons for a tenner each from Dapol. Both the same but a bit of judicious grott soon disguised that.
Well, yappy or not, I did get my 'Terrier'! I wasn't particularly fussed as regards livery since my intended layout will be a 'Heritage' one, and these railways often run loco's in various liveries from time to time, so to me, it wasn't an issue. This model in 7mm came out a while ago so there aren't that many around on stock in model shops, but luckily "Rails" of Sheffield still had a few of the LSWR versions, and at the excellent price of £179.50. Even luckier, I had a credit with them of £30, which made it an even better buy, I ordered it yesterday and it turned up today, so onto the rolling road it went, half an hour in each direction and it's now ready for a decoder, which hopefully will be here tomorrow. Once run in, I connected my multimeter in series on the amps range and checked the maximum stall current to make sure it was within the safe current range of the intended decoder (A 21 pin LaisDCC one), maximum was only 0.78 Amps, so well within the capacity of the decoder (short term max load 2 amps, steady load 1 amp). Stall current should be checked on DC before decoder fitting since checking with a decoder fitted on DCC will not give the correct reading due to the square wave AC voltage. Anyway, here it is.
I have the blue version and sound fitted with crew that were designed for this model. It is a really lovely loco. Tony H..
I seem to remember it was a fairly straight forward install, not as easy as an 08, however there is a slight tingle at the back of my neck, watch out for some of the underframe fittings. Nice model, I have one of the BR versions. Paul
