I thought I would try my hand at O Gauge wagon kits so at Christmas I brought 11 kits, mainly brass but with a few plastic ones. I decided I would try kits from different manufactures to see how they compare. The image shows the completed kits. I will post individual photographs of the wagons at a later date once I have added transfers and weathered them. If there's interest, I will also provide information on my experiences as a novice to the brass kit build world.
Excellent start there in the wagon building department ... just wait til you move onto loco kits The first wagon I built i O Gauge was a Parkside Tube wagon and I got a lot of pleasure from doing that. Happy building and am looking forward to seeing your other projects as they happen cheers Yorkie
ELEVEN in less than 2 months - I can't unbox RTR that quickly Looking forward to seeing the completed builds, or even build shots. Paul
Thanks for the comments Pete. I have just ordered the Dogfish kit from 'David J Parkins' which I'm told is full of detail but a very challenging kit. If I get on well with that I'm thinking of getting the Tamper Kit from 'Peter Clark Kits' followed by a loco kit from 'PR Model Railway Products', so I see a busy few weeks ahead.
Nice work Mikeling ! I'll be looking forward to reading about your experiences of putting the different kits together for sure. Cheers, Gary.
I have to admit that these kit makers are ones I've never heard of. We as a forum could do with some sort of listing of these little known kit manufacturers, a kind of 'kit wikipedia' maybe?
i have built a few of david parkins kits. incidently he also designed most of the PRMRP kits which i have also built a few of. The PRMRP kits were his early attempts at kit design and sold on to RJH. They have passed through many hands trhough the years from wagon and carriage works, nigel stanley and now PRMRP. He admits himself that they are quite basic and not the easiest kits to build. His later kits under the modern motive power brand are really nicely designed but much more complex and detailed than his earlier models.
Now this is a great idea. Not just only kits, we could include paints, glues, card suppliers (both plasticard and paper), brass sheets and shapes, solder, flux..., etc etc. The list is endless ! Cheers, Gary.
Another job for Dundee Paul to set up on the forum then Gary, as if He's not got enough to do presently what with his 3D printing adventures. Keith.
