Hi Paul, Nope it doesn't fit my build plate is 130 x 80, plenty wide enough, but this thing is 16' 6" over headstocks, even printing the chassis and those long end beams separately the body still doesn't fit. To quote a well known character "I have a cunning plan" actually a simple plan, I'm am putting a number of very rare books up for sale and have suggested to the family money rather than nice things for Christmas - yep I'm doing what I should have done and as you advised first time around and going to buy a Mono X.
Hi Mossy I was meaning to pront the sides individually then glue them together My timber wagon on a Mono build plate - not a Mono X. Regarding the Mono X - there are now two versions the original 4K version, and the new 6K version The plus side for you is the Mono X price has dropped from $759 ( approx £570) to $529 ( approx £395) Interestingly the Mono X 6K RRP when released will be $659 (approx £495) so cheaper than the Mono X was listed at, so may be worth a little wait for the ^K version to be available, as the resolution The good side side is you can use both so while the Mono X is printing the big bits, your original Mono can be printing all of the other bits. I'm still doing that with my Original Photons. At sometime I'll take a look at the replacement Mono screen solutions Chitu Systems are offering to convert the Original Photons to a Mono screen, the price is not much more than a standard RGB replacement screen for the Photon. Paul
Hi Paul, I understood what you were talking about but that's a shed load more work that I hadn't planned for or designed in. The books I am planning to put up for sale (assuming they sell) should raise between £500 -£600, more than enough for a mono X, and yes the smaller mono can be used to print all the smaller bits and pieces. Like all electronic gear, as sales ramp up, unit costs decrease and its nice to see someone has the gumption to reduce prices as this happens rather than pump up the price like I phones claiming major updates which simply means more gadgets most of us wont use.
I've been fiddling and furtling about again. On the solebar of the dia 60 luggage van there is a circular object, its a gauge showing the amount of gas left in the tank. Dead easy too draw took a couple of minutes, but... then I started trying to draw the pipework which wraps around the solebar towards the gas tank i.e. it would be at least 2 sketches would it be worth it? By accident I found the pipe function (solid - create - pipe), its not obvious what's needed but after a couple of dead ends, I figured out you draw the path of the pipework and simply specify its diameter. Well below is the result. I'm not sure the .5mm pipe will show up much or the even smaller pipe clip I manged to draw but lifes a rich ..... and all that. Has anyone else used this function successfully and is it worth persevering with?
I have used it, you can draw pipes between sketches using the 3D draw function. You create a point on one sketch and then one on another and join the lines which creates the path of the pipe.
Hi Rob, Thanks for the update. Where's the 3D draw function, I have had a quick look but can't see one. I was trying to figure out how to draw a pipe path in 1 plane then continue it on a second or subsequent, sounds like 3D draw answers that problem.
The bracket will show up, and it may even be worth dropping in the screw head or bolt head that’s secured it.. you will be surprised how much we can get out these printers.
Didn't even know it had that feature. In addition to the bolt heads suggested by Andy, I'd undercut the gauge (apply a fillet to the back edge), when you paint it and apply a wash, it will appear to be a seperate part. Paul
Paul, I found it by accident, but the font of all knowledge Mr Pulham seems to know all about it. I haven't figured out the 3D draw function he talks about and the help documentation is about as helpful as a poke in the eye with the proverbial.
This has come up on Farcebook today.. i wonder if this is some kind of replacement? It’s the old school Purchase the product and it’s yours rather than the stupid monthly subscription for 360… anyone considering?
mmmmmm, not sure how good it is for 3D modelling, not having any autocad experience, and the version of 360 I use is free, although I do find anoying the shipping off of some functions to the cloud, when I have a PC that could do the task quicker than the time it takes to send the file to the Fusion server (e.g. the STL export function is done in the cloud). Paul
Paul, I think pretty much all the functions are cloud based and prone to being very slow especially when the USA is on-line. Given I'm normally up between 5 and 5:30 (a legacy of working that I haven't broken) if I start messing just after 6 it's particularly bad and seems to improve after 7ish. Like you I'm old school, why cant it be installed on my pc and ^&*(*^ the cloud and all its hype. Mossy
Petesdad bought a couple of the reject van bodies and asked to see how the redraw of the V1/1 is getting on, so a couple of pictures of the body. It hasn't fundamentally changed but there are a host of cosmetic changes which only showed up when I scaled the drawing and cross ref'd it to the model. The floor needs drawing but having recently acquired a scale drawing of the interior I found out the floor planking runs along the length of the van not across so the current floor has been scrapped and I still need to draw a replacement. The first test print will have to wait till it warms up our attic is colder than the fridge. The second project which is a full interior now based on the plan and not vivid imagination is on its 3rd draft as I didn't like the first 2, none of it is fit to be seen yet so piccies of that will have to wait.
Sorry Gents, a busy week has prevented from seeing this until now. The 3D sketch function is a check box on the sketch properties menu. When you open a sketch, the menu appears at the right hand side of the screen. The check box is near to the bottom of the list.
Finally got the interior into a state where it's fit to be seen, but if anyone has any suggestions to improve it please shout up. Half window end , the other side is a mirror image: Clerestory End the hole in the floor is for the brake standard and from inside the van. Rob and myself were confused by what was shown on the plane diagram as a quadrant, Tom Burnham suggested a table so that's what I have drawn, has any other better ideas?
Rob, Do you think there should be a clock hanging on one of the walls? And possibly a coat rack near one of the doors?
Never seen a clock in a guards van? Rough shunt and it be on the floor.. Relied on your pocket watch or wrist watch.
Hi Mossy, I agree with Andy regarding the clock, there may have been a coat hook and probably a lamp iron for a spare lamp.
