Hope everyone has had a great Christmas and are all working the excess off. Does anyone here have advice or used Slaters Plasticard nylon brake shoes for loco driving wheels in Gauge O ? Reason I ask is because the clearances on the 9F five foot diameter driving wheels is extremely tight between wheels particulaly with the brake hangers fitted, I cannot find images or any refencesof them being used so wondered if anyone here knew. For the record I need BR Standard design brake shoes and I'm a bit unsure if the Slaters product is suitable for the 9F build. Any advice greatfully recieved.

MOK sells the shoes for 9f, just give him a call. [it's quicker]

Thanks Chigley... I knew there was another source but just couldn't bring to mind. On another note I was reading through PADs thread on WT building an MOK Standard tank and was very impressed with the MOK design process using tab connections.

If you scan the etch of the brake shoes, email the scan and give me an idea of how thick you want them I can try and 3D print them

Thank you for that kind offer Paul... its very much appreciated... the brake shoes are lost wax castings and so are the brake hangers... the hangers are not the issue as they sit nicely close to the frames but the shoes have to be drilled and pinned which makes them too close to the wheel rims. When you say scan do you mean like on the scan bed of the printer? Sorry to be a thicko but just to clarify... I'll send all measurements too. Can't do it today or tomorrow as we have business in Lincoln tomorrow.

Couple of good photos, with dimentions, and I'll see how I get on.
A mock up of the assembled hanger / brake shoe, then a fully dimentioned brake shoe.
I don't have a drawing of the 9F, if you have one showing the chassis / wheel and brake assy that would be brilliant.

Thanks Paul I'll get on it after tomorrow as Lis and I have to sort some arrangements in Lincoln tomorrow... or later today... her mum passed away before Christmas so we are dealing with that.

    Paul/Paul,

Rob will probably have drawings of 9f's, he seems to have an arsenal of drawings of locos from almost every era. I am pretty sure Robs Princess build has 3d printed brakes, because I have printed brake shoes for about 5-6 loco's he is building or planning to build.

Let me also add my condolences to you both.

That would work - on my way to build my own 9F one brake shoe at a time :avatar:

Sadly, I don't have a drawing for the 9F, it's a bit too modern for me and I have never been asked to build one for anyone else.

The Princess does indeed have printed brakes shoes kindly printed by your goodself.

Can I add our condolences to you and Lis, Paul. There is never a good time to lose someone, but it always seems to hit hardest around Christmas time.
