G'day Peter, Welcome aboard from Sydney. Plenty of great topics to keep you reading for hours and many great photos to keep your eyes open ! Members here are quite friendly and are willing to answer any questions you may have. Then again, I may have questions for you ! Anyhow, kick back, settle in, read up and enjoy the camaraderie and banter that is P1MRC. Cheers, Gary.
Hi Guys and thanks for the welcome. Now that I am fully retired I am building my first OO layout in the loft. Only a small house so layout is 11ft x 11ft approx. GWR based in the steam era - it's what I grew up with! Lived in Canada from 2001 until 2014 and had a 50ft x 25ft G scale in the garden (sorry - back yard!). Currently laying track and fitting point motors etc. Layout will be DCC but I have a large collection of older locos to convert where this is possible. Am enjoying the videos and tips here and on other YouTube channels - great sources of ideas and inspiration.
Welcome Peter Any questions, just ask, there's quite a few of us going down the DCC route from full blown computer control to just loco control and every possibility in between (reading Toto's posts you'll see he has covered all aspects of DCC, and most have beaten him into submission at some point, but we've managed to pull him through ) Looking forward to hearing more about your layout - even if it is GWR , and now is a good time to start a layout thread Paul
and Peter G great to have you Aboard Thanks for posting a little about your self and your new layout plans Would be great to see it in a layout topic so we can follow along as you progress Equally you could also show us the past Garden layout in the back yard sounded like it would have been a lot of fun in the sun Again welcome and enjoy Platform1
Hi - I have just posted a video of the Garden Railway that we built in Canada back in 2002. Hope you enjoy watching. http://www.clickPeterdocument.write('/images/emoticons/food-smiley-004.gif');
Hi Peter, What a fantastic layout. Difficult to hold back the ravages of a Canadian winter though. A treat to watch it and see what's possible. Thanks for posting it up. Cheers Toto
Thanks - we had great fun building it. Two major mistakes though - putting in blocks to attach the rails to and stakes for the trench sidings. It was these that were forced up out of the ground due to the freezing in the winters. If ever I was going to do it again I would just line the trench with weed stop and leave it at that. The crushing fines provide both a good base and a firm ballast - nothing moves! Hope to post some pics and maybe the odd video or two about the 11ft x 11ft OO layout currently under construction in our small loft. RegardsPeter
You live and learn Peter. All the better for the experience. I'll look forward to you loft layout taking root. Cheers for now Toto
