HI to every one - and thanks for the warm welcome - just a bit about myself - have just come back into railways after a 20 year break - things have changed a lot - so I have started with new stock - taken over a back bedroom 7x12 thinking about a end to end -code 75 peco track - and dip my toes into dcc - I am retired (where have the years gone ??)- live in Norfolk uk--- I like all railway- but I model in LMS /gwr -- I know gwr ha ha - any way look for ward to catching up with the posts - and you are a very friendly lot thanks Dave
Hi Dave, Thanks for the intro. That gives us an idea of where you are at. LMS / GWR. Very good. What kind of DCC system have you got / are you thinking of ? I am running with NCE myself. Quite a popular choice on here but again, not necessarily the best for everyone. I look forward to seeing what you decide on for your end to end. It's a decent space you have there. Cheers for now Toto
Hi Dave, nothing wrong with GWR modelling. Nice sized room to start your end to end project. Have you sorted a track plan out yet?http://www.click Kim
Hi again ,- I also bought a NCE controller-- and a few 8 pin chips from hattons - ( I don't think I would go down the sound route ) for me as, bedroom is next to play -sorry testing room - I have also joined a local model railway club - which is great learning and hands on - if they let me /// so far I have found out I am very good at making coffee / tea - I have to start somewhere lol-- I will sort out my plan and try and post - find it hard to put into scale - not cover the baseboard in track -leave room for scenery --regards Dave
What club have you joined ? That will help you tremendously. A bit like here really but we never close. Maybe have a look at Anyrail track plan software. You can get a free trial download and it's pretty easy to get the hang of.
HI Toto the club is kings lynn model railway (Norfolk ) I think I am going to be lucky as they are talking of building a new DCC layout - a great advantage when 10 -15 people throw ideas into the melting pot -- myself I have started wiring the layout for dc - and kept back 2 dc locos for the job - no sections/ sidings wired - also using live frogs but powered by 16v ac separate from controller when all is ok will remove dc controller for NCE but keep points 16 ac - do you see any problems doing it this way regards Dave
The 16v AC for the points, I take it this is just to fire the point motor and it does not come into contact with the track ? Personally I think you are missing a trick by not controlling the points via your NCE controller but it's your choice. What kind of point motors are you using ? Toto
HI again h/morgan but modified micro switch to change frog polarity also on the other side of some , point tie bars double pole slide switches for signals / lights, as I was just starting out points wired how I know + a chance to feel the full potential of dcc locos (Testing) regards Dave
Hi Dave Nothing wrong with liking the GWR I used to live down in Norfolk at East Rudham on the Fakenham road and worked in Lynn but wasn't doing any modelling at that time so never attended any shows or clubs. I only started modelling again once I moved North into LNER territory and had the time and space, there's usually some light hearted banter between me and the others but I have discovered they really have a begrudging respect for the for the Western. Good to have you aboard and I look forward to seeing your progress. Jim
