Yet again the lure of an E Bay non runner (but mint body) bargain makes me buy something that's totally out of period. £10.50 including p & p - 15 minutes work - stripped dummy bogie down, cleaned wheels, axles, pivot pin and pick up (how did it get so mucky!), re-soldered the pick up wire to the bogie clip, fitted new spring and brush and away she goes I'm becoming a real fan of Lima diesels - the slow running capability and traction ability is amazing. And they seem to either run like a sewing machine (my class 20 is an example) or growl like the real thing - when its moving who needs DCC? Next on the target list is a green Class 40.
Just go's to show, if you are willing to take the gamble and put a bit of work in, there are some real bargains to be had. Plus if you want to, detailing them takes them up to a much higher level. Nice one! Cheer's, Pete.
When I said the next on the target list was a class 40 - well, err..... and Ended up with 2 - a Lima and a Jouef. Got an offer accepted on one whilst bidding for another! Not sure what to do now - the Lima is at least almost to scale width wise whilst the Jouef is a bit tubby, but the Lima one does have the self colour ends which do look slightly odd - either needs a repaint or some weathering. The Lima one came with all the head discs, so that would improve it no end. Suspect I'll be keeping both.
