Mmmmm, smokey fish and chips, with vinegar no doubt ! Cheers, Gary. ps, Thanks Kimbo, sounds like a plan.
I see this page has been started on the Hatton's website, presumably to drum up business for sales of the Hornby TTS chips. http://www.hattons.co.uk/NewsDetail.aspx?id=165
Interesting to see the install in the class 31 on the video uses a 20x40 speaker but at the bottom of the pages the pictures show a 20mm round speaker ? All the ones I've seen and worked on have had small speakers not sealed into a enclosure and I've found that changing them to the biggest I can fit in the loco helps to improve the sound, but these sound files do lack base. Still a nice cheaper way to add sound to your layout.
The A3 sound chip has been dispatched from Hattons, so hopefully I'll get it within the next few days. I'll try and print an enclosure for the supplied speaker and fit in the tender of the Bachmann V2 Paul
It's arrived The speaker on this version includes a speaker enclosure - the enclosed leaflet states some models (but not all) are supplied with an enclosure. The enclosure is approx 5mm deep, and has a full height hole for the speaker wires to pass through. I will block this with blue tack to see if it improves the sound. Otherwise it will provide useful dimensions for a diy enclosure - any ideas on an optimal size. Paul
I’ve so far fitted one in the A1 Tornado... which to say was a Hornby Loco and the chip by the same maker, you would think that they had been designed on different planets. The decoder itself due to size will only go in the loco smoke box, which obviously would not leave room for a speaker... so then it had to go in the tender... Q the next issue.. the wire is not long enough, so needs extending... but then am I doing a fixed link between loco and tender or.... fit a plug. Well I went for the latter. Quite happy with it, but now feel it lacks the smoke and steam from the cylinder cocks etc when you hear the fireman frying his bacon on the shovel. I’ve also fitted another unit to a Lima class 60... sounds good, but again, I now need to add lights... I also feel it lacks a motor inside that makes he body wobble as they fire up... but with that I’m just kidding...
Hi all Although I found the steam versions of the TTS decoders to give an unconvincing sound, I have found their Diesel ones to be quite useful, so far fitted them to the following Graham Farish N-Gauge models. Class 31, 37 & 47, all went in with no more work than is needed for a Zimo decoder. Paul
