    Hello Jim and others,

firstly a very good conversion, and I like the sloping top tool boxes, not only keeps the water out, but deters persons from sitting on the tool boxes when moving, in this particular regard OH&S is not new, riding in open wagons was potentially very dangerous.

Secondly, did you consider using the wagon as an additional source of current collection ?

Thirdly, PO wagons taken out of revenue service would have the previous PO markings removed, and some markings to indicate its restricted service. For instance, it may be restricted to a particular location, and it would very likely be prohibited ( restricted use ) from the main line. In this regard, the National Coal Board / NCB Internal Use Only markings come to mind.

Quite some years ago there was a reference to Vauxhall Colliery PO wagons. The colliery closed in 1929, and the wagons would have been returned to the hirer, or sold on. In both cases, the relevant Vauxhall Colliery markings would be eliminated to prevent unintended despatch for revenue service .

    Regards to all, Echidna

    Hello All,

re Paul_i 's photo of xNBR / xLNER Y9 no. 68101 on the first page of Toto's O Gauge Loco Depot Tender Truck, it is noticeable that both the loco and the tender are equipped with footboards and handrails for the shunter to ride on.

On the VR / Victorian Railways in Australia, a similar arrangement was used on steam tender locomotives that were restricted to yard shunters, being former D3 4-6-0s and class K and J 2-8-0s. All of these locomotives had two 4w bogies under their tender, and the Shunters Boards and Handrails were fitted to both the locomotive and the tender.

Although some VR locos so equipped did run on the main line, they were generally restricted to local work around major centres like Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Ararat etc..

With Britain's more restricted loading gauge, footboard equipped Tender Trucks would most likely have route restrictions.

    Regards, Echidna

    Hi Echidna,
At first I was thinking of something to look good in a siding, but as the build progressed I did think about linking it electrically to the loco. New wheelsets would have been required which would have to have been ordered. Like Gormo says, use stuff you've already got. I may convert the conversion at a future point.

I think this wagon by it's nature would not have been mistaken for being usable for it's old purpose. Also, as Toto says, the markings give it individuality.

I'd agree yet again, I think it has taken an older wagon and gave it new sense of purpose. It has turned it into today's news. It will give a sense of desirability to something that would have maybe laid unused.

    First class.
