Spent a family day in York yesterday, but managed to sneak off to the NRM to see if anythings changed. (Well, you can't go to York without going to the NRM, can you???). Herewith a few pics from my visit. Attached files
I do have a better pic of the 'Duchess' taken at Shildon, will have to find it out, in the meantime..... Attached files
I can remember in my childhood, going into Sheffield (still some parts 'bombed out' after the war) and seeing these loco's going over "t' Wicker Arches" and into Sheffield Victoria station via the Woodhead line from Manchester, long gone now! Attached files
Despite my being a "Southern" fan, these must be a candidate for "Ugliest loco ever built" award! Still, they were built to do a job, and were pretty good at it, I gather! Attached files
.....and finally, the last one built, (for BR that is!), "Evening Star", probably barely 'run-in' before withdrawal. Keith. Attached files
Been to York many time Keith but never got to the NRM so many thanks for the photos ... more of the same please Ian
Thanks Keith I remember visiting the NRM in 1981 as a 7 year old Dose the sectioned merchant Navy's wheel still turn constantly all day must have done some miles over the years it's looks like it's in a different place in the museum from 1981.
Great pics Keith. Feel free to post as many pics of Southern locos as you want/can. Soon, the others will follow... Cheers, Gary.
