Another kit from Ellis Clark ordered earlier this week. Forgot to post it up. Comes complete with wheels, motor and gearbox.

An LNER C12 tank loco by ACE kits. Unfortunately never ran in Scotland like the C 16's did but just a small technicality.:avatar:

I'll post up some photos when it arrives

    Cheers

I must confess that I did look at this a couple of times before plumping for the Finney kit. I have seen a few of these built and I know a chap that has built a couple who will give warts and all feedback when the time comes for building it.

I built a 4mm one from a Craftsman kit, in fact it was my first kit in brass, made a lovely model.
On the strength of that I built a 7mm one from a Wagon and Carriage Works kit. A bit harder to assemble but it turned out alright. I just never used it. I fitted a ESUV4 Locksound chip at the time but its just sat in its box in the spare bedroom, I did try selling it at Doncaster O gauge show but without interest.

I think I will finish the body add a crew and coal her up. Might inspire me to make more use of it!

    Cheer's, Pete.

    Hi Pete,

You have made a beautiful job of it. It looks as if it's came right out of the box factory assembled rather than a kit. Absolutely seamless build. Can you put up another couple of shots from other angles please. Possibly showing the bunker off and a shot a bit more square on to see the wheel configuration.

Only if it's not too much trouble.

What lettering Tec do you intend using and do you have any idea where you will source them from ?

    Cheers

Thanks Toto. I am hoping eventually to letter it up in LNER livery and will probably use Fox transfers. I haven't lined any of my locos yet, always been afraid of cocking it up :faint: but I quite fancy having a go at this one, just need to decide on the prototype to copy.

A couple or three more photos. I will try and take some more close ups for you if you like?

    Hi Pete,

Much appreciated. As I said previous, a very clean build. Much to be admired and proud of.

I note a slight curve on the cab roof. Did that come performed for did you need to tackle that yourself. It looks a nice profile but very tight to form.

    Cheers

    Hi Pete,

For information, they were just plain black after 1928 so depending on the period planned you may still not need to line it.

It's also worth noting that black engines were lettered shaded "yellow" rather than the shaded gold that green engines were lettered in. The exception to that was that express passenger engines were in gold shaded letters when first painted black during the war - I don't know offhand whether that changed when they shortened LNER to NE later in the war though.

That's a great build you did Pete, nice and crisp lines, there's something magical about the GNR design I think. Macclesfield shed had some of these to work over the MB&MR on the GC and NS Joint line, I've seen pictures of them at Higher Poynton and Middlewood High Level on local workings to Rose Hill.

I have the C12 and the C14 but note after some reading up that it was really the C16 that had roots up in Scotland . Pretty typical of my luck but that will teach me to look into it a bit more closely. No matter, if built, they will run in my vision of Scotland. :avatar:

Rule 1 again Toto  from my part I don't recall Hymeks working on the North Stafford freight lines either, and the Hymek is a very attractive looking diesel... even if mine isn't finished.

Yes I suppose I ought to but I've done so much on the Triang Hymek body I can't really justify another Hymek kit right now. I compared the Triang body against a Heljan one and the only significant difference with mine is in the roof dome. The curvature of the cab roof is slightly shallower than it should be by only 1mm at the highest point, however its enough to notice when put head on against the Heljan equivalent which is prototypical to drawings I have.

I was just going to ask are you sure that the Heljan one is correct because they are noted for having a few errors when I spotted your last line...

No I'm not 100% certain but the cab roof below the horns is a nearer profile curvature than the Triang version to drawings I have. I may even put this loco up for sale on the bay when finished to fund a nice steam kit... I'm not precious about it.

Hi Toto, if I remember correctly it was flat and I had to roll it myself. I rolled the centre shallow curve first then using the cab front,or rear etch as a pattern, rolled the tighter curves using a thinner roller, can't remember what I used, and an old mouse mat and then my fingers to get a tighter bend. Its easier than you think mate.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I may be wrong, it wouldn't be unusual, but I think I've seen photos of them on Staveley engine shed, close to where I live.
