At least you know that the tender will go together without any sort of fight which until you build it, is more than can be guaranteed for the loco itself....

In fairness, aside from the known issue with the missing half of the smoke box saddle one of the gents that I know who built one wouldn't have been shy of saying if he had encountered major issues.

The one things that I did note on the two that I have seen is that the valve gear looks very flimsy and if I were building one for myself I would replace it with a combination of Premier rods and Laurie Griffin castings.

I'll have a look at your reccomendations Rob. I could be buying in bulk as I've just added some more ACE loco's to the fleet. I'd guess they will suffer the same potential problem. Thus is possibly one of the reasons that their kits are do comparatively cheap. ...... You get what You pay for.

    Cheers

I'm away to check premier out. I need to see if they make their product selection easy in terms of identifying which products kitvwhich loco kit.

    I'll be back.

Premier looks fine and Lauries site is another great find. First time I've looked at it. Could be helpful going forward, especially for the castings side of things. should have looked at this before.

    Cheers

It seems to have been one of those weekends, I have just acquired a DJH kit for a Hunt complete with wheels from the GOG sales pages. - I was rather taken by it having the rotary valve cam gear which I very much doubt is included in the ACE version but I could be wrong. I will post a thread when it arrives.

    Hi Toto,

The DJH Hunt arrived today and I was a little surprised to find that only the chassis for loco and tender are etched and everything else is cast Pewter. I hadn't realised that it is one of their recently produced "easy Build" kits. At the minute I am not planning to unpack the castings because I don't want to damage them but when I get to it I do expect this to be a very quick build.

When you unpack it , bung some pictures up. I'd be interested to see that. No rush, I'll wait until the build starts. ...... the suspense is killing me......:avatar:

Just had a look at the DJH site. I hope the kit is good Rob. You could have had 3 ACE kits for that price. Especially when it's cast parts.

The difference of course will be in the finished model but ....... wow .......

I could but I didn't pay list for it and it came with wheels. If I don't have much in the way of cleaning up (and you would hope not with the moulds being new) it should be a very quick build.
