If it were me (and I know nothing about building brass engines) i would use the principle shown in the pic, fashioned from two strips of 6mm wide thin brass sheet, fastened to the lower and ends bent at 90 degrees with holes in for a washered nut and bolt. Probably over engineered and as said a bit of bent wire may do. Just my pennies worth.

Just catching up with this build, great work Kim, and Roger's photo's really reveal what an ugly duckling these were - don't have to worry about creasing the sides :avatar:

The motor / mount look very impressive.

    Cheers Rob.
Thanks TimberSurf, very nice but as you say over engineered. I think I have a plan.....more later when I fabricate it.

Cheers Paul, they sure do, once I’ve cleaned it all up ready to paint I use Toto’s favourite tool and amend the body work accordingly!! :faint:

    Today session......

The fabricated wash out plugs soldered in position, happy with the extra work, I think it’s worth doing. Then Solder the fire box to the base plate.

2nd part of the boiler assemble formed and soldered up, but not soldered to fire box or base plate yet.

And finally the last section which will house the chimney. I noticed on the latest version of this kit that the boiler / firebox is a resin one piece casting !! I wonder why ? :headbanger::facepalm::faint: Still it’s been a good learning exercise to bending brass and soldering it up.

The beginnings of a beautiful face.......well I like them, if no one else does

The three sections of the boiler where then soldered to the base plate.

Next up the cab, this was a bit easier to shape. So posed here ready to attach to the boiler and base plate. I’ve had to order some 1mm angle as there is non supplied in the kit, this forms the rail that runs each side of the boiler at the top of the curve.

    It’s getting there slowly.

Cab soldered to boiler and base plate, cab floor soldered to cab, white metal parts cleaned but I may have to glue these in as I now can’t access them from inside the boiler.

Yesterday session was to add as much detailing to the tender that I could work out from the drawing and photos, plus some detailing to the front of the chassis.
Pipe work and cables next up.

So here’s where she stands at the moment.....

    Kim

Looking really good Kimbo. Did you glue or solder the white metal parts on ? Won't be long before the first test run.

Hi Toto, no so far all soldered, but unless I make an access hole (which I might do anyway for the speaker) to access the chimney from inside the boiler then I may have to glue it in position.

    HELP !

Can any one help me out re these parts, which I can not find a home for on this build ....

I’m thinking that the cast brass items must go in the cab some where but even with all the pictures I have I’m struggling to find the correct position.
I’m sure some of the white metal junctions will be for under the cab where the pipes connect but again I can’t match them exactly with the drawings.

Item 15 & 18 I’m certain go in the cab, but where......second picture...could it be fitted this way round?
The two brass uprights, could these be the seat adjusters?
    Any help greatly received

    Hi Kim,

I should think parts 4 and 5 are injectors and probably go behind the cab steps somewhere. Part 15 looks like it might be a hand brake for the tender?

Sadly my eyes are not good enough to see the other parts clearly and I can't enlarge them because the photo is not of a high enough resolution.
