Another just arrived from Ellis Clark Trains complete with wheels ( no motor or gearbox ) seems in nice condition. Pictures to follow later. Cheers Toto
I am fairly sure that Scorpio do an updated version of this kit and Peter Duncan(PAD) did a comprehensive build of it on RMweb last year or the year before. At least you know where you can get parts for it. I would also think that Ragstone would have replacement castings for it should you need them.
I had one of these but sold it on, it was 90% built but it was a bit rough! However if built right Like PAD’s build it’s a superb recreation! Ragstone will definitely be your friend for replacement castings
Thanks for that ....... here is the photo's .... the box .... and came with wheels ..... and a wee envelope with name plates ..... Robert the Bruce ..... and another wee envelope with some fittings ..... and the usual white metal etc ..... then the frets and there is loads of them ........ and another ....... and another ...... and another ...... and yet one more ...... getting a bit tired of posting these photo's up ........ cheers for now toto
I have to assume it went well with the sale of the OO stuff then I think you are going to need to brace the baseboards when this lot get together. Nice looking loco's
I just revisited this thread and noted the Robert the Bruce name plates which really through me because they are completely fictitious. There was of course only one DOG numbered 71000 71001 was an electric loco.....
And of course the name Robert the Bruce was latterly used on Class 87 electric loco 87021 which went on to a new life in Bulgaria.
This kit has been totally reworked by Dave Ennis of Scorpio as were the Clan and Brit kits. I can only say the Scorpio Brit kit I have comes with very detailed instructions.
There was talk about doing a production batch of standard 8’s For the western region. Swindon has 71000 on test during 1955 along with Duchess City of Bristol, certain services where to have their pre war timings reinstated and the BTC was under the impression the kings where not up to the job! Messers Ell and Smeddle at Swindon had different ideas and 6015 was fitted with a double chimney and tested extensively with great success with all kings so fitted. If 71000 had it’s correct size ash pan and Kylchap Chimney fitted from the outset as planned may be history would have been different. 71001 could have been named Iron Duke I’ll be watching your build with interest The Duke has always been a favourite of mine and I’d like to add a model to my collection.
Great info Steve on this thread as I didn't know that. I understood that 71000 was a replacement for 46202 which was lost in the Harrow disaster, and because of an acute shortage of availability in rostering 8P classification locomotives at that time, the rest is history, as the BTC decision not to take the Duke into production and the fact that the 1955 modernisation plan decreed a different vision would presumably have over-ruled any other ideas for a Duke Class fleet.
