Ellis Clark have a Ivatt loco and tender complete with wheel, motor and gearbox. Its an ACME kit and looks ok. The boiler does not come pre formed but apart from that, a nice kit.

Anybody heard anything about them ?

Just had a quick look on the Ellis Clark website, it looks a good kit and complete for the money but how accurate the etches are I wouldn't know... probably worth the punt ... I've seen ACME kits going on ebay before and recently a 9F from the same stable. Sorry Toto not much help I know.

Acme are the former Jim Harris range and I would suggest from what I have heard that you need a lot of experience under your belt to tackle one. That said the ACME A4 has a really good reputation and I am considering adding one to my stash at some point.

Like Rob says they are ex Jim Harris. I bought an Acme 08 kit. It was a :bleep6: to build but eventually made into a nice model.

There seems to be a common denominator here. I'll treat it as a warning. :avatar:

Try finding someone who has a set of rollers in stock and for sale... it is as difficult trying to get someone to make a chassis jig. You don't mind reading Out of Stock on a website but when you are still reading the same sad little apology twelve months later then it starts getting a bit rich. :headbanger::hammer: If I had the necessary tooling I'd make this stuff myself.

could do with dunking these etches in something to clean them up. They are a bit grotty.

I wouldn't bother until you are ready to use them - they will only tarnish again now that they have started. kit suppliers usually wrap in acid free tissue which is great until someone opens it and handles the etches. Then they start to tarnish.

Bar keepers friend, shiny sinks, Viakal or good old fashioned VIM/Ajax will all clean up the etches when you are ready to use them.

Now here's a thing, on page 88 of the Gazette (Vol 20 No 7 May 2018) an advert by G W Models says the following:- 10" mini Roller £65 + P&P £7 (UK) or 6" Mini Roller & Rail Bender £55 + £7 P+P (UK), however the G W website states these items are currently out of stock. Now where have I hear that before. May be worth ringing them Toto as a Guild member.

Could be worth a shout at that price. Does it give any info on diameter of the finished pieces that it's capable of ?

    Cheers

Typical Little Jim kit, none rolled boiler. I should check the castings as well, when I built my Acme 08 from Jim, the white metal dummy axle boxes were twice as thick as needed, it took me ages to file them to the right thickness as the file kept clogging up, afterwards some one suggested wiping the file with soap to stop it clogging, I wish they had told me earlier.
Would it be possible to roll the boiler by hand? I use a length of brush handle, about a foot long, on an old foam mouse mat, gradually adding pressure until it is formed.

    Cheer's, Pete.
