Cheers Guys, I've still to do the Turrets and the entry brackets, but these may go on the back burner, as I think I need to get the traversers up and running. As the traversers are for modular layouts I've had a couple of ideas to make them more flexible for the future ...... and that's all the spoilers your getting for the moment Paints dry so I can rotate the baseboard. Paul
Just spun the board round, and temp fixed the girder bridge and retaining wall Starting to get there Paul
Really looking good. I can visualise some of the scenery around about it hiding the various transitions between the bridge elements. It will turn a simple track plan into a terrific focal point. Carry on Sir.
Looks good Paul. One observation..., shouldn't the bridge pier be wider than the bridge, especially the steel span leading onto the lattice bridge ?? Cheers, Gary.
The grey colour looks like galvanising. Shame it's to be covered but you wouldn't have naked steel anyway. The galvanising effect is one for the future though. Ideal for steel purlins on the inside of more modern sheds if they are visible. The black will look good. You may have to rust the black up though to match the girder bridge a bit or it may look odd. It is a great result though.
Unlike most of the country I was at work today, so the real work started late First the remaining track pins were inserted in to the bridge sides (the sides were made with holes and recesses for the pins - anyone might get the impressing there was some planning involved ) And then the black applied to the front Paul
A little more progress, sleepers painted with a mi9x of Raw Umber + Burnt Umber + White + Black When dry I can start to add ballast, then tone the whole lot down with the airbrush Paul
Started to place the ballast Out with the bridge I've used some insulation tape to act as a dam for the ballast Cleaning off the ballast from the sleepers, fun time on the bridge section Paul
1st board now has the ballast glued down. And some brown muck brewed up from Raw umber, black and white plus thinner to give a milky consistency. Tomorrow I will start on board 2 for ballasting - I've got a feeling I will run out of ballast just shy of the end of the board Paul
The ballast has come up nicely Paul. I am actually amazed that they ballasted this bridge, me thinking it may have been bolted down sleepers on the bridge frame ! Cheers, Gary.
Thanks guys Yes Pete, I've used the airbrush, with Daler & Rowney Graduate Acrylic Paint (120ml tube for £3.60 from Hobbycraft) for the muck spread so far I've mixed Raw Umber, with a small amount of Black & White added, for the center the next pass will have a little more black, and down by the rail sides I will add a little Burnt Sienna to simulate brake dust and rust. The thinner I used was Lidl's W5 window and glass cleaner. I also use it for cleaning out the airbrush after painting. Paul
