This is a project that I have been thinking about for a while as I have a serious problem with trying to keep my track clean. I have tried various methods to clean the tracks, the biggest problem is dirt and dust. As with most track borne methods you have to tow the track cleaner with a loco, because the Loco is in front of the track cleaner it's wheels get covered in gunk, so it cleans the tracks and not the track cleaner and therefor stops.
So I decided to build a Loco that does not need the wheels to pick up it's power.
Hence the Radio Controlled Deltic was born, The reason I choose this loco is that it has plenty of room inside and it is easy to disconnect the motor from the wheels. And I could cut the roof of in such a way that when sat back on did not look to bad.
The equipment that is currently fitted to the Deltic is
    Battery 3S 800mAh
    ESC 6A brushed non-reversing
Joyway 4 ch RX and a 4ch Joyway TX ( removed from an R?C plane that was converted to tip fodder)
Attached are the photo's of Deltic with the roof removed. I first took the clear plastic windows out before I cut the roof apart.
I will break this up into multiple parts or it will be to hard to follow.

The next stage was to glue the clear window section into the body and cut the roof section out of the clear plastic. The reason I did it this way was because the window plastic would become very fragile and my clumsy hands would have broken it. The blue handle tool seen in the photo's is the small razor saw i used to gut the roof sections out. after all the cutting gave all the cuts a going over with some fine wet and dry. the next part will be about the chassis.

Not sure what the legal restrictions are for yourself, but in the UK the Aircraft R/C channels are not allowed to be used for land based vehicles (cars, trucks and boats).

Is the TX/RX 2.4GHz digital or AM/FM analog - I would suggest 2.4GHz digital, as if someone uses the same channel, the digital will go into safe mode (normally motor off and steering straight).

Again looking forward to the progress.

I'd say when they wrote these rules no one ever thought that trains would be run using R/C !

    Cheers, Gary.
