I am in the process of building my layout having returned to modelling about two years ago. My wife suggested that I should create a youtube channel to document the progress. This is the latest video that I posted yesterday. Between learning everything to actually build the layout, and the technicalities of preparing for a video, shooting it and then making it look reasonable I am kept fairly busy. Thank heavens I retired from full time work last July

    Hi Steve,

Can't seem to reach your page. I'll maybe try UTube itself until the issue is sorted. ..... Another Edinburgh man I see. Which part ?

Fantastic video. A great insight into both the layout and various methods that you are using. Looking forward to your next instalment.

I personally won't be at Warley as I have an exhibition in Elgin shortly. I hope you manage to make yourself known to some of the other members who may make the pilgrimage. It's always nice to put a face to the name and enjoy a blethering.

Great to have you with us, and I hope you are enjoying the forum. Thanks Aldo for endorsing Platform 1 as well. It means a lot to know we are doing something right. :avatar:

    Cheers for now

Thanks very much Toto. It would be good to meet up with others at Warley.

I am in Bruntsfield to answer your earlier question about where I am in Edinburgh . Moved here to from London 8 years ago. Best thing I ever did

I'm in Saughton mains reasonably near the Gyle ( about 5 minutes away ). Maybe we can catch up some time.

I'm looking at possibly heading down to the Edinburgh and Lothians minature railway club down in Piershill at some point. If you fancy a look at their club facilities, let me know and we could maybe meet down there. I'm sure like most clubs, they'd appreciate some new members.

    Just a thought.

    Cheers for now.

Forgot to mention. As far as a mechanism for your turntable goes, I know that Paul of this very parish is planning a how to on that very subject. I can't say when that will be but I know he was considering it as there are two people sitting waiting for a solution already. Myself for an O Gauge version and another N Gauger " Marty " .

So ..... It won't be right away but I'm sure it is on the cards.

Before I retired I often had to visit Saughton House. I have been thinking about visiting the local club. I've seen their layouts at a couple of shows. If you do decide to visit I would certainly be interested in meeting up.

No worries Steve. Let me get the Elgin exhibition out the way ( not next weekend but the next again ) and we can have a clash of heads :avatar:
My other half used to work in Saughton House for the DVLA. we stay about 2 mins up the road in the new Miller Houses that were built around 20 years ago.
I spoke with the guys from the Edinburgh club when I was at the Dundee exhibition a couple of weeks back and they are keen to encourage new members.

    I'll look forward to that.
    cheers

There is an article in the October edition of the 'Australian Model Railway Magazine' regarding mechanisms and operating turntables using arduinos. Toto will have a copy soon... ;)

    Cheers, Gary.

Time for the latest update on my layout Elvenhome as the raised area at the North End is built, and one or two things that followed me home from the Warley MRC Exhibition get an airing

    Hi Steve,

Mallard no less. Very nice. You have done a nice job of the viaduct. A couple more photos would be nice. I have not forgotten out previous discussion about a potential visit to the Edinburgh & Lthians Minature Railway Club. We'll need to come up with a date and a plan for invading them. :avatar:
I have met a couple of their gang on a few occasions and they seem really freindly with lots going on.

I'll look up their meet times and come back with a suggestion or two over the pm system if you are still up for it.

    Cheers

    Toto

Nice loco. I'm impressed with the level of detail on the loco and also the teak coaches. Are the Teaks from Dapol or GF/Bachmann ??

    Cheers, Gary.

Thanks Toto. I am pleased with the viaduct which was only the second thing I had scratch built. One of my earlier video showed how I went about it (episode 7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFE0HVFLHl4). I will take some more still pictures of the viaduct (and other parts of the layout and put them on this thread)

That all sounds goon on visiting the Edinburgh club.

    Regards

    Steve

Hi Gary, The teaks are dapol, including the buffet. The Dapol stand had them at £60 for three or £22 each. I needed eight but still got them all, including the Buffet coach for £20 each which was a result as far as I was concerned :)

I wanted to do this video as a complete newbie to soldering and fitting a sound decoder. The new Farish Castle is, as I now know, very easy by comparison to other locomotives. I hope this helps others to have a go at this kind of thing sooner than I girded myself to try https://youtu.be/0EQcVd08BKg
