Oh boy ........ This has been a real nightmare judging this as the submissions have been to a very high standard and very novel idea's. This is the problem for me because i dont like having to choose but ...... choose I must.

OK .... Matt had started off on a wagon conversion early doors but ..... as happens ....... life gets in the way and time was a prisoner. he had to duck out of the competition. Never mind Matt ..... there will be other opportunities and thanks for entering in the first place.

Mr porter came in with another wagon based conversion entry which was absolutely brilliant with some great details and a very novel idea to begin with. ..... The bar was set .......

Ianvolvo then stormed the scene with his micro brewery and carriage converted bar all housed within a arched under bridge set up. This idea to me was the mutts nuts as it utilised the under arched bridge as a main structure and then the cut down carriage as the inner bar just topped it off for me. All , as usual, to his very high standard of modeling. the lighting was also a very nice and subtle addition.

Well Mr Timbersurf ...... what can I say really. Your initial idea of the windmill and cottage holiday let was excellent within itself but then you totally went to town with it. The buildings themselves were built to a very high standard and were taken that stage further with lighting and smoke etc just to bring the whole thing to life.
this competition always gave the ability for folks to build their creations into a cameo scenario and this is where I think your entry took it to the limit. The scenery supporting your submission, although not the main focus itself, helped when the build standards were so high and difficult to choose from. Presentation is always a part of the criteria that I try to emphasize as the competitons are judges on a mixture of subject matter, modeling skills, inventiveness and of course ..... presentation.
Your presentation was excellent and not just that but I noticed that as your video points out, that the whole effort was built taking " viewpoint " into consideration from every angle. Not something that is generally done and on this occassion has worked to great effect.

Need I say more really. ...... It is with immense pleasure that I crown timbersurf the Winner of the Platform1 xmas competition 2018.

I think all entrants deserve a great big well done and from myself ...... a thanks for taking part in the competition in the first instance. It has been great watching these builds evolve.

Timbersurf ......... if you could pm me your full postal details to me including name .... address and post code please, I shall organise for your prizes ...... loco and rolling road to be delivered. It will most likely be next weekend before this happens as I am back up north tomorrow returning home next friday evening.

    again

    many thanks to all

    Toto

Congratulations Timbersurf, and to the rest of the competitors on some excellent modelling, I didn't envy Toto's job of having to choose a winner.

I have to say that the initial impetus of entrants and lack of progress lead me to a feeling this could be a one horse race, given that I dived in and pretty much completed 2 months early! However, those latent schedulers came from the back as a flurry and there were some very strong runners that where hiding their light under a bushel ;), who came up side by side and gave me a real run for my money !
Ian and Jim, the other two finishers deserve commendation for second and third place.

I have entered two other forum competitions in the past (an 'also ran' and second place for my Special Loads) and realise it is a great spur on to push the boundaries of ones endeavours/skills and materials sources, that without the encouragement/competition and forum enablement (that's you Toto ), I would still be floundering around thinking about things instead of doing them. We all learn a little from each others work, I have from my fellow runners and from the O gauge comp as well.
Thanks to all those that have followed the competition and your kind comments and special thanks to Toto for sponsoring the process. :tophat:

You are very welcome. for me, the competitions are first and foremost meant to be fun albeit with a keen slice of competitive edge as its always nice to win something. I try and pitch at every level where I can. However, you have to be in it to win it.

there will be loads more competitions coming up and hopefully we shall be able to spur a few others into entering as well.

Another big ..... well done and thanks for entering. Mind and pm me with your full name address and postcode please and the prizes will be out by next weekend. I am traveling back up to sunny Banff early tomorrow morning and not returning until friday so sorry for the slight delay.

Paul is luckier as I pass his house on the way up tomorrow morning. So provided I dont sleep in and put myself against the clock, I'll be dropping in on the way up for a coffee.

Well done to the two of you.

    cheers

Big congratulations Mr Surf, well deserved!

As Toto said, real life got in the way which prevented me making any further progress but, there's always next year!

    Cheers Matt
It's funny, but stuff in my life has got in the way for the last 6 weeks (wifey poorly), so it was extremely lucky that I dove in immediately the comp began, or else I would have struggled terribly to have finished it nearer the end!

Snap! Culminating in an operation and a stay in hospital. Mrs 21 is doing much better now though. Unlike you however, I dithered with my entry right from the start!!!
