I was checking through the 21 kit again focusing specifically at bogies and it looks like the axle extensions when unscrewed will release the wheels ... I just need to work out a method of removal for the axlebox covers. It may be a case of some micro drilling work ... not sure yet.

    Hi Toto.
Basically, all you would need to do is to connect the 'parallelled-up' pickups to the input of one decoder (as opposed to the two as shown in the drawing), then feed both motors from the output of the decoder, assuming that the current handling capacity of the decoder is adequate for the two motors total stall current. I built my Bulleid "Leader" with the wiring exactly as per the first drawing, as I use two decoders, both programmed exactly the same rather than separately and then setting the two motors up as a 'double-header'. Be aware though, that when connecting up the motors, you'll need to connect polarity opposite to one another, as the bogies are mechanically and electrically facing opposite to each other. Fail to do that, and you'll finish up with the bogies either trying to pull the loco apart or crushing inward towards each other.
    Keith.
(Apologies for no drawing, but I don't have either a drawing program on my iMac, or the skills to use it if I did!)

Yes Toto, they were adequate for the job, and I've tried to standardise on them wherever possible, though even these are occasionally not physically small enough to fit into small loco's (the B4 springs to mind!)

Keith, pardon me for being a bit dense here but if two bogies both collected power off the same side then wouldn't they both run in the same direction simultaneously? The only difference would be the way round each outer frame was fitted.

I had wondered if this piece was the right way on, nice thing about soldering is mistakes can be warmed up and reset...so out with the microflame to release the item and then sweated it back on the other way round. Thanks Steve for pointing that out...:tophat:

I hope these instructions are right...... :avatar: too many variations to build in.... :avatar: Paul ..... I hope you are rewriting these as you go. ........ just joking lads. It's great to have a build with designers feedback.

I'm going to contact paramount pictures ( rahhhhhhh ....... lions roar ) and franchise this thread.

My 24 is going to be perfect. ...... ahem ...... probably look like an 08 by the time I'm finished.

Carry on great hethians of model making greatness.

Poops..... passing threads there York Paul. These things are very easy to misconstrue in the making. I have viewed many destruction that seem to answer every other possible question but the one you need. There are sometimes little nagging questions that you have to go with your own interpretations one way or another.

You are doing a great Job and I think will end up with a model built as it was intended. I think that there are a few parts that , if miss2d would not be noticed by the un trained eye, however , you are , you are following the build through to give the full bhuna. ....... hats off to you Sir ...... :tophat:

Thanks Toto, as they say s*** happens but the main thing is it can always be recovered with the right tools as I've done thanks to our designer Steve's knowledge. As I say we're short of nothing we've got... now to those rolling bars, :scratchchin: oh dear I knew there was something else to buy.:avatar::avatar:

Here's a picture of tonight's work, the undercarriage frame is mainly complete now apart from the buffing frame extensions and beam, next stage after fitting these items is to dress the under carriage and add the fairings.

Yes Paul, they would both run in the same direction with both bogies facing the same direction, but when fitted to the loco, the bogies would be facing in opposite directions and would then be trying to pull the bogies apart or push against each other, hence the need to connect each motors connections opposite. When fitted to the loco, the foremost bogie would be pulling, rearmost bogie pushing so as to move the loco in the required direction. As you have the bogies more or less 'runnable', try connecting both motors to the same supply with bogies in the position they'd be in when fitted to the loco, as this may make what I mean clearer.

Thanks Keith, I'll build in the pick ups and set the wiring accordingly. Currently I've nearly finished building up the underframe assembly so that will be my next task.
