Multi tasking is not something I do well. Especially modelling and watching football at the same time.. Handrail at angle - England v Columbia just as penalty awarded, lifting lugs at angle on bogie stretcher - England v Panama just as Lingard scored. Thankfully this is just a demonstrator for a brand new kit. More details to follow but hopefully should have a finished example by tomorrow. Doesn't have anywhere near the same detail as the etch brass versions but does contain a couple of awkward bits. I did these just now because once the football starts I'll be a quivering wreck.
Will you be stopping the production of the etched brass kits ? Personally, I like the detail in these kits. I don't think they are too expensive either. Its always good to have the alternative if the demand is there for them. Do you have any intention at looking at Class 47's, 31's or 37's in the near future ?
No not at all in fact this range has improved the sale of the etch kits. All those Classes mentioned are covered with etch kits although availability is limited and the 47 aside, the others were designed nearly 40 years ago! If there's demand then it's worth considering.
I'll agree there Toto, Steve's price represents very good value for a diesel kit, from my point of view I'll state my wish list:- Class 24/1, 25/1, 25/2. I knew these engines very well from my previous railway career and the early RTR 25 to me is a trite off the mark regarding cab profile curvature about the draw bar... or should I say lack of curvature. I'd also be interested in a 40 and a 44. Another interesting point which I'm always going on about regarding old kits is the amount of work that has to go into building them is unreal, I'd be much happier in paying a little more for good quality and well designed kits which actually deliver the chosen engine as it should be. Old pre CAD designed kits are ok I'm sure but just not for me.
Steve, a question if I may. Would you consider doing just a pair of your etched bogies for the class 25? I would like to maybe hang something more fine underneath my Green SYP Heljan 25/1. David
I do provide Class 25 Bogies as a separate kit and they are indeed highly detailed. If you contact me through the website I'll send you the Instruction manual and you can have a look.
Noted - I think what I'll do is keep the Etch kits but market the Resin bodied ones as a separate range.
That may prove to be a very happy choice Steve baring in mind I'm just one voice but am always happy to offer balanced opinion and feedback, I suppose the viability of a dual range basically hinges on the amount of sales they each generate but in my case I'd buy etched kits over a one piece shell cast in resin every time. Having said that I agree there are two markets out there (and we see that with the recent meteoric rise of RTR) but I don't see good quality etch kits disappearing any time soon. Anyway these are just my few random thoughts if this helps and I am looking forward to building your etch kits. starting with the 24.
