Thanks chaps, cheque is in the post... surface mail... hope I put enough postage on it... :scratchchin:

Managed to sort out the 'semi-permanent' section that crosses the hebe bush to the next celcon support. A process not without its additional challenges, as I discovered to my cost that I couldn't use the C-section to complete the curve as it left insufficient clearance when crossing the lower line for the second time. My solution? A piece of off-cut uPVC cladding (which is in storage waiting for my tame uPVC tradesperson to return and refurb the rest of the house with it) and a bolted on step (cunningly fashioned from some spare C-section) to keep it at the desired height:

Another whiff of the primers, and put in place:

Finally, the last hurdle is cleared with the aforementioned uPVC offcut:

Looks good from a clearance perspective too:

Still needs painting, and I might try and blag a slightly larger piece when I get a chance. But it's all looking pretty good from where I'm standing!

    DD next time Clive

Nice solution and use of materials to get the required clearances
I assume with G scale track you won’t need to support all the sleepers over the bridge ?

Thanks Toto, appreciated. Kim, the rails are thick gauge brass so won't be flexing at all. I tried to cut the bend points so that each section of track was supported by cross beams in two places. It's looking pretty stable if not stunningly symmetrical! However, I do have a cunning plan for covering the bridge decks in case I need to, but I will leave it for now and see how i get on.

Ah more Platform1 members with cunning plans :avatar:... and bits of offcut Eurocell cladding too :avatar: Seriously Clive it all looks absolutely stunning now, the way you constructed the over bridge on a curve, the loco passing snugly underneath and how the track sits neatly in situ also, what a super job and such a lovely thread to follow. :tophat::tophat::tophat: I look forward to the next installments and adventures on the S & C Garden Railway.

    cheers for now,
    York Paul

As the thickness of the plastic sheet looks rather thin from the side, the trick would be to glue a plastic/metal girder bridge to the top of it so it's "strength" looks like it comes from the superstructure! A couple of old Hornby R657 bridges could be joined together and be had cheapish or a Märklin/Marklin H0/AC 7163 Blech Metal Arch Bridge might do the trick

Clive, I thought 'G' was for G scale, I think it's "Geeee" for the work you've done and doing :avatar:

Yes, you have a point, I was wondering what to do about that, and your comment reminded me of something I had salted away under a cupboard in the conservatory - some bits of 00-scale bridge that I bought second hand for not-very-much some 10 years or more ago. Something like this, maybe?

Still looks a bit 'spindly' for a structure of this size and weight, but it will perhaps give me some inspiration to look at some variants on this theme.

Yep that does look a bit wispy!

With your new found skills in metal working, you may have to make your own! (having just looked up how much G scale off the shelf bridges are G is for "Good God")

Or how about plastic instead of aluminium angle? Example

I did think about that, but I capitulated and bought a pucca LGB girder bridge from the Bay of Evil for £24. I had to rearrange the span slightly, though:

Hopefully this bridge, in combination with a lump of the aforementioned uPVC cladding (still needed as the bridge is straight whereas the track is curved) should see us right!

Whilst waiting for the bridge to show up, I moved up into the jungle a bit, to do a bit of clearance of the old 'Waters Edge' branch:

The overgrown, and frankly unwelcome Lonicera was also toast:

The biggest headache, however, was clearing the countless weed seedlings that had sprung to life since the rain we had following the 6 weeks or so of sustained dry weather. Those weeds really do catch you out if you turn your back on them for even a second!

Thanks Paul, there's light at the end of the tunnel I think... Although it could be a train coming the other way of course!

You could always order up a weed killing train Clive :avatar::thumbup:. Now a thought occurred to me about that bridge span you showed the other day, if it's a bit on the thin side could by getting hold of another one could you not glue two side spans together to make it structurally stronger? With cross bracing added at the top of the bow that would work you you think. :scratchchin::thumbup:

Thanks Paul; that might have been a way forward, apart from the cross bracing - the height of the span wouldn't give sufficient clearance for that unfortunately. I am expecting my 'plan B' purchase to arrive some time on Friday so hopefully, when I get it, I can set about placing the new celcon bridge support exactly where it needs to be and go from there.

But I appreciate you making that suggestion!:tophat:

Clive, great progress....re weeds, this is the advantage that Ralph has....1.2- 1.5m of weed growth before he needs to worry about weeding :avatar::avatar::avatar:
