Delrin drive systems

Yes I've read your posts on the Guild forum and there are some good replies there.
So far my experience of the Delrin drive is to say tricky at the least, this is what I did, as you know I've got a PRMRP Hymek conversion kit ongoing on the workshop bench. The PRMRP kit I purchased has two powered bogies thus has two Delrin chains thus twice the issues, I'm not wanting to put you off but if you have an up down flat layout of about 15 feet with no real curves like mine then maybe a Delrin fitted loco is a bit of an overkill. So back with the Hymek bogie I found getting the best length adjustment without too much sag in the run was the main problem, once I'd got the correct amount of links I found fitting was best done by setting the chain over the first wheelset and then building the second wheelset up after having run the chain loosly over the second wheelset cog. Keep the chain away from any worm gear and don't fit it with tension, the chain will slacken slightly but once set up should remain good. The plastic is self lubricating so doesn't need oil and depending on space on the axle just watch to make sufficient room for the Delrin and worm gear cog to sit together. On the PRMRP kit the bogie is made up from an inner "u" shape frame which comes in two parts, this sounds easy but if the kit doesn't give you specific information about distances between wheels then you tread carefully because when it comes to fitting the Delrin as sure as eggs are eggs you will have to play around with the chain to make it sit properly. My next diesel kit will be a JLTRT Class 25/1 where the bogie set up is so much more simpler than the PRMRP approach but then that's scratching for you.

Btw I spoke to Mr Ennis today and he will have my Standard 4 ready for dispatch by mid January the delay is down to redrawing the slide valves with a much easier assembly as the old kit was difficult to say the least ... so I'll post up pics when that comes too.cheers for now Paul

Yes they are Toto... now a tip here I found is to wire each plunger individually so four plungers equal four wires, the reason I found is because of the tight space within a diesel loco bogie frame wiring plungers as per a steamer will hinder and retard a free springing action on the plunger tip and cause excess wear. When that happens electrical contact is lost and the loco stalls... as I found out to my cost... told you I am still a novice Also you may need to fit the O ring packer on the plunger if the inner frames are closer together and there is a greater distance between the plunger tip and the back of the wheel.
