G`day Folks, As the description has implied, I have made a little tool that allows me to run up a line of rivets in no time at all. The tool is made from a small gear wheel from an old wind up clock. Clocks are also an interest of mine and I have repaired and restored a handful over the years. Consequently, any that I have that are past the point of no return, I don`t throw them out but rather, keep them for parts. The parts may even come in handy for model railways.....you never know..???? Years ago I acquired a leather working tool from my Father. I guess it resembles a spur. I have tried rolling it across foil and brass shim to create rivets but the points on the tool are spread too far apart. So all that I have done, is replicate this original tool for leather working and replaced the wheel with something smaller ,so that I can create rivets. I think you will find it easy to follow in the video. Direct Link to RIVETS on YouTube http://www.clickGormo
Riveting video Gormo Most clocks nowadays are electric (battery), but I found this which might work http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10X-Vintage-Steampunk-Gears-Cyberpunk-Cogs-Wheel-Watch-Parts-Pendant-Craft-Arts-/281767777202?var=&hash=item419aab13b2:m:mHUhM3ZdythQb2y00ztNeWg (Don't want any 'little darlings' out there taking Mum's best antique clock apart). Ed
Thanks Paul & Ed, I was waiting for somebody to find the video riveting .......Ed.?????......I don`t know mate????.....oh well not to worry......it`s all part of the fun... Yes Ed......there`s a couple there in the link that might be possibles.......it`s hard to tell exactly from the pics but the ones with the finer, smaller teeth might be worth a go.???? At that price it doesn`t matter much anyway if they are unsuitable, however just had a second look and assessed the measurements.....I think they might be just a tad too big......it`s difficult to tell?????? but you`re on the right track for sure... http://www.clickGormo
But you could have two of them, with a spacer between them to produce a double row of rivets at the same time Paul
Thanks Folks, Good idea Paul ......a spacer with two wheels to create a double row......now why didn`t I think of that.????. I mean if you were going commercial with this thing, that`s the sort of approach you would adopt, a tool that could take possibly up to four wheels, or anywhere in between, to create parallel rows if you wanted. The other alternative of course, is the commercial rivets on a transfer method currently available, but you guys know me by now.....old do it yourself Gormo, won`t spend a penny unless he has too.... Well not really......I just get a kick out of creating these things myself......a home grown railway.!!! http://www.clickGormo
gormo wrote: Toto, I think Gormo is a secret scotsman with a tan ...... Gormo, try putting the metal on to foam - like the stuff sold for kids crafting, it may reduce the pressure you need to apply. My KNK Zing can do embossing (not tried it yet tho ) but crafters put a piece of craft foam between the cutting mat and the work piece. Paul
Thanks Paul, If I am thinking correctly about the foam you are describing, surely it would be too soft. Edit......SWMBO just showed me some .............Point taken.....disregard my first comment. No Scots blood in me lads.....sorry to say.......but dares a good deal ov de Irish for sure, for sure......is dat close enough for yuz???? http://www.clickTop of the evenin` to ya!!!
