    G`day Folks,

Gormo hasn`t been about the forum much of late but nevertheless, I have another shed episode for you this week. Yes folks, life seems to be very busy at the moment and my train time has been significantly reduced, but I`m working on that !!!

This weeks episode is a mixture of a simple how to and running trains......doesn`t get much better than that..????

I hope this simple little device may encourage some of you to have a crack at home made train videos and together we will raise the bar of excellence once again on this forum....:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:.

By the way...!!!!.....this device is not limited to video.....there`s no reason why it can`t help to get a steadier shot with still pics as well.!!!!

Just out of interest, not owning one of these Smartphone, thingy, whatsits, or a tablet, how do you get the video from the phone to the forum?

Internet access from a phone ain't cheap and I know how long it takes just to upload a small video from my laptop to YouTube.

Ed.....The video to the forum can be done a few ways but the end of the conduit means always going via YouTube.

The first and most obvious way is a direct upload to YouTube from the phone. The cost will depend on what sort of phone plan you have. In my case the cost is prohibitive. The other factor this way is that I have to edit the video either on my phone or via the YouTube editor. I prefer to edit using Windows Moviemaker on my laptop.

The second way is the same as above however instead of uploading via my phone plan, I can piggyback my phone onto my home broadband via a WiFi router. This method over-rides my phone plan and is much quicker and cheaper.

The method I actually use is to transfer the video files from my phone to my laptop via a USB connection. The same method I use for my video camera files. When the files are on the laptop, they are inserted into Windows Moviemaker for editing. When the project is complete it is saved as a Project File and then that file is used to create a second and final file in a format that is suitable for YouTube ( MPEG-4/H.264Video File ). Eventually that last file saved will be uploaded to YouTube.

Once the file is on YouTube, it`s location is copied from the address bar and then pasted into the YouTube section of our reply page here on the forum.

One important thing in my case is that my video camera records in Full HD and simultaneously in MP4. The HD files are massive compared to the MP4, so I always create my Gormo`s Sheds in MP4. I prefer to lose some picture quality instead of spending hours waiting for massive video files to upload. As you may know, upload speeds are usually always slower than download speeds on internet networks.

I hope that gives you a better idea of how it`s done my friend.

I have used the instructions supplied by Paul at the top of the home page for uploading videos from youtube several times but not once has it worked, all I get is "This video is not available". Now whether I am missing something I don't know, but I have given it up as a waste of time.

    G`day Pete,

I wonder if your YouTube settings are set to private in which case it wouldn`t allow the video to be viewed on the forum..????

You can check by going into your YouTube channel....click on Video Manager

Pick the video you want to look at and click the arrow next to Edit. In the drop down box click Info & Settings

When the next screen opens check what the video is set like below where the arrow is pointing. If it is set to Private or Unlisted it won`t load on the forum. It needs to be set to Public. If you change the setting make sure you Save Changes in the top right corner.

I`m not sure if this is the issue but it may be worth a go.???

    OK Pete,

    No worries......damn!!!.....that`s annoying.

The only other thing that comes to mind is the actual address of the video.

I have found in the past, that if I use the address that pops up when you first load the video onto YouTube, that it will not load onto the forum.

However, if I go back to my YouTube channel, don`t sign in , but rather bring up the video as a visitor viewing it, then copy the address from the address bar up the top and drop that address into the forum reply page, it works.

Sometimes, and I don`t know why, the one video will start out with two addresses...?????.....go figure that one??????......or maybe I am just mental..????

So you could try that method Pete, just go back to your channel as a visitor, don`t sign in, copy the video address and try that..??????

    http://www.click:tophat:Gormo.....with fingers crossed.

    Hi Pete,

Sorry I can't offer any advice here because I am what Paul would term as a Luddite when it comes to these things.

Don't give up mate ....... We'll all cheer when you break through the other side wiser for your efforts.:avatar:

    Cheers bud.
