    Hi

Well when the boss is away, the mouse got to play with any rail :avatar:

Toto and I have decide to build an O gauge layout each - Toto has got the head start and is working on Luib Bridge. The idea is that if they are good enough, we'd like to exhibit them, either as stand alone layouts or to be able to join them together, with perhaps a fiddle yard between the modules.

Toto being Toto, can't resist adding that extra little twist, so as he is intending loading wagons with coal (oops have I let that out of the back - me bad :giggle:), I had to empty them !!!.

So I have the challenge to make a working tippler as well as build my first O gauge layout.

The scenic section will need to be 8ft max, which was tight in OO, I can't think of a printable adjative to describe it in O gauge.

So here is my first attempt

The rear track will connect to fiddle yards at either end when at a show, but in stand alone mode at home, a Terrier or similar loco will arrive with 3 loaded coal wagons from the rear left.
There is just enough room in the head shunt. It will then reverse over the double slip and deposit the full wagons into the full wagon siding, and pick up the empties from the other siding and depart. Meanwhile the gasworks shunter, picks up 1 wagon at a time from the full siding, takes it to the tippler for emptying, then returns it to the empty siding.

So what do you all think ?

    Paul

The van ...... oooooops ..... Did I mention the platform 1 tour bus :avatar: will be framed out for 4 ft 6!

Looking forward to the start. Get a move on.:tophat:

Your not going to call it " gas works module 1 " now ...... You being a Dundonian...... With the famous DC Thompsons in town ....... It's got to be Glebe Street :avatar: you could have The Broons and Oor Wullie on the night shift. :avatar:

My thoughts at the moment - very rough

The bark blue is the outer frame of the tippler and will be operated using a small stepper motor similar to these, and an arduino or Raspberry Pi zero to operate it

    https://www.modmypi.com/electronics/motors-and-robotics/stepper-motor-small-reduction-5-wire-512-step

The dark red is a free moving counter balance weight, pivoting on the same center as the tippler , when the tippler starts to rotate, the counter balance will allpy pressure to the wagon to hold it onto the rails - well thats the theory

    Thanks Kim - great find

That's just like I imagined it - Thanks to Peter Lloyd for posting this on Youtube

Now I just need to make some sketches, and see if I can make it on my 3D printer - no rush, I don't even have wood for the baseboards yet :giggle:

    Cheers Paul

Nice plan Paul plenty of operational interest esp with the wagon tippler.
Looking forward to the build of this layout.

Got an interest in this thread as my mini plonk needs a coal tipper over the quay and I've yet to work out how to operate the coal drop ... but greater minds than mine are now on it ... cant wait

Watched the video yesterday, some clever folk about! I have seen a couple of layouts on the rounds with tipplers both have different ways of doing it, one was an end unloading the other slid up rails before tippling, I will follow this with interest .
    Cheers, Pete.

I think the approach will be dependant on scale as well.

I will also be using this as a learning curve for the 3D printer, and 3D modelling software plus Mum's comming to visit this weekend for a couple of weeks, so modelling time may be limited.

Well that's done it - committed now, or I will need committing when SWMBO gets the Visa Bill.

Order placed with the big H for a double slip, a box of flex and 5 buffer stops - blast I forgot to order fish plates, for not much change out of £170 it better be worth it and gold plated.

Module 2 I think will have hand built track.

Just need to build baseboards now.

That's it ....... The ba's burst. Double slip .... Ouch. :avatar: it may even be there for the weekend.

I'll be in the shed raking out my styrene thingy so I'll get my baseboard dimensions to you as discussed.

Ooooooo this is getting exciting. :avatar: I may still have some fishplates left but it may not be many. I'll bring what I have up at the weekend and it'll be enough to get you started.

    Cheers

    Toto
