Wot GM1 not good enough, after all the govt is gonna spend millions on HS2, I'm starting to know how they feel with GM1 . I'll have a think about it ...... Paul
This not so little bad boy arrived today, along with 12 yards of flex and 5 buffer stops at just under 2ft long it ain't small, but looks good Baseboards to source now Paul
maybe not, it may effect how I build the base boards, depending on how they straddle the join At £83 I aint cutting it, thank you santa Paul
Coward .... Don't think I would be either. In fact ...... No thinking required ....... I just wouldn't. Remember ...... These polarity wires for the vee's etc are very fragile. I'd drop a blob of solder on them regardless. Mind and check the destructions to see if there are any links to come out for DCC operation. I'm going back for a swatch at your track plan again. I will return.
Just looked, that slip is gonna be awkward for a 4 ft 6 board. In fact I don't think it will work to get a decent length on your sidings. May need to be a bespoke length.
Finally got the PC set up downstairs again, and printed off the anyrail plan and with some stock Overall length is 8ft and optimal width of 2ft (was based around 4 x 2 baseboards, however the flounder has changed to goal posts to 1400 x 550 mm baseboards (9'2" by 21" 5/8th in real money - remember with Brexit, we can go back to real measurments again That gives a foot to play with to shuffle the points around the baseboard joint, to reduce the width I can move the tippler closer to the sidings, but not by much. Paul
It actually takes more stock than first meets the eye. Plenty room for scenics as well. Not too much track. When does the baseboard build commence oh great one. I'm sensing quite soon. Could I be correct ........ Again.
That's a nice size yard Paul Looked good in the planing stages but the full size plan with rolling stock in place really gives the sense of proportion that you don't get when looking at the plan on the PC It gives you plenty of space to shunt etc with the short head shunt making you do loots on moves to break up a train and unload then re assemble a departing train. Only suggestion and it's only thinking of the future, would be to lengthen the head shunt track when you get to laying track then position the buffer stop short to suit a loco and one wagon and scenic over the extra (long grass, brambles) just in case you need space in the future for a larger shunting loco then you could remove the stop and clean up the under growth Or you could have a abandoned wagon , there to shorten it up then if needed remove wagon for the larger loco use. You know that O scale is addictive and locos grow Just ask Toto. Other ideas van for the use of the shunting loco crew or a old wagon as a coal stage for the loco servicing, an Old Guards van turned into a Crew bothy.
Cheers Guys Baseboard construction will need to take place during the weekends, due to the fact the dog likes to leave wee parcels on the grass leading upto the shed door, and with the dark nights you can't see them. I did suggest getting the dog stuffed, but from the expressions on the female members of the family the only one getting stuffed would be me . Thanks for the suggestion for the headshunt Chris, hopefully the next loco will be smaller than the Terrier, maybe a Hudswell or Hunslett 4 or 6 coupled industrial loco. I quite fancy having a go at scratch building one especially after seeing Jakesdads excellant build. Paul
I like the idea of the longer track with the long grass brambles etc. Something a bit different. great idea Chris. Paul could use his back garden for inspiration. Think I better go now.
Another loco to consider is the, New Minerva Victory "Kimbo"just got one and it looks like a nice chunky work horse for a yard or there's the Peckett saddle tank https://www.minervamodelrailways.co.uk/the-models/ http://www.click
Cheeky *****r I have no brambles in my garden , I do have plenty of overgrown stuff but thats the dogs fault, he keeps adding manure and watering them.
paul_l wrote: I,ve seen a proposed O gauge shunter somewhere recently that looks interesting, a 48DS Ruston, small and bijou, just right for a plank . Cheers, Pete. Ps, found it in Railway Modeller, its from Little Loco Co, DC/DCC-£200-£225/ DCC sound £260-£285, no time scale.
For you info Paul and Pete there's a full description of it here.... http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/1317_1_19094.html
Getting that to pull full wagons of coal, i'll get reported for loco abuse Very cute tho' We'll see what turns up Paul
