I agree Ian. And very unique as well getting away from the usual types that you see. Love the steamies parked up at the platforms as well. A great shot Gormo.

    Cheers

    Thanks Ian & Toto,
The platforms were a leap of faith for me. I wasn`t 100% sure it would work. But as Matt pointed out at one stage.....what`s the worst that could happen.....rip it up and start again.....so I am now relieved that solutions have been found to some issues and it`s come good.
I am very pleased with the look of the platform and in the end for me it has been worth the trouble.
The last issue I had was trying to get the white line to look right with pastel or chalk ....masking it or with a rule. When sealer was applied a good deal of it washed away. It still looked OK but not defined enough for my eye. So the old lateral thinking kicked in again.....I made a jig for a snap off blade. The blade was sandwiched between two bits of 3mm MDF and protruded about 3mm out from the MDF. I then ran the jig along the edge of the platform to allow the blade to scrape off the top layer of pastel back to the white sandpaper underneath.......Simple and accurate. I didn`t scrape it clean because I wanted a slightly distressed look, so bits and pieces of grey pastel remain behind.
As I said before on another subject.....there`s more than one way to boil an egg.!!
    Cheers

I guess this pic is a reasonable example of the result.

Looks like you can set up folders too Gormo, so you can upload your layout stuff into one , Photos you link in other threads to another and anything else in the main one. That way you know if you have something in your layout one and you delete it , you can look and remove or replace the link. and if you upload some for other threads you can add a note at the time of upload to say where it will be linked so you know not to remove it.

I need to ask Martin / Tany . . . If we move a photo from one folder to another, do the links follow it ?

    Cheers

    Matt

I feel I really need to start this topic again.......although most of the guys know the history anyway......so probably just carry on.

Gormo , update on the folders, when I go to insert an Image in a post I dont see any option to insert from anything other than the default folder. so at the moment looks like you can link from the main Gallery and THEN possibly move it but it may be worth ignoring folders for now

    Cheers

    OK Matt,
I`ve just moved one of my pics to a folder, however when clicking on the insert button, all my pics are displayed rather than the folder..
Well mate, let`s face it, we`re getting there....it`s better than the attachment system......little steps will eventually turn into a giant leap for this forum.
    Cheers
Gormo......how`s this text by the way....is it too big.?????

    Well Folks,
The railway room is all ready for the pending arrival of my family from Queensland tomorrow. Track is cleaned ....everything is running, however in my system checks I lost a point motor on the main fiddle yard. I have Peco point motors fitted with the adapter bases sitting on top of the baseboards next to the track. There is a sliding plastic bar in the adapter base which is activated by the solenoid. The plastic bar on one of the points snapped in two. This is the third one that`s snapped on me in a couple of years. Either I`m doing something wrong or the parts aren`t strong enough for the job. Fortunately I have replacement parts and I`ve sorted it out.
Question is, why do these little annoyances always happen just before you`re ready to strut your stuff for the masses..........my mate Murphy and his laws might be the answer to that question.
I think some time may be given to designing my own latching system for the solenoids.

Or replace them with r/c servo's, mechanical linkages you'll love em.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgJ-GVXtHVw

MERG do a servo controler (4 servo on one board), or an arduino can control many approx 10 direct, then additional controller board can be added - 16 per board @ approx £12 per board.

Don't listen to Paul Gormo. That's how he reels you in. It starts with a servo or something simple and before you know it .......... It's full automation and setting up forums.

 ignore him. That's my advice.

Glad it sorted though. Enjoy the family ......

    Toto

    Thanks fellas,
And yes Paul.....the servos are really good. It wouldn`t be too hard to convert over methinks. Actually I`m sure I`ve seen somewhere how you can convert a servo over to analogue by removing some bits or whatever, but I think you have to watch the input voltage or something........as you can gather.....my recollection is a little vague.
Anyway .....all good at the moment.....but research will follow for a future improvement to the system.
I wonder where the forum will be tomorrow??????.....platform 1. com.au????
