    G`day Folks,

Back into the area behind the station finally.

The polystyrene base for the scenery has been given a skin of plaster just on the areas that have been contoured and now today, I`m laying down the road surfaces for the lower level.

I am just using wet & dry paper for the roads and roughing it up a bit as I go along.

The road is fixed down with PVA and I use pins to secure it until the glue dries. The wet & dry paper tends to want to curl up on the edges, so sometimes I use the pins and sometimes I use weights to keep it in place.

There was also a small section near where I left off last time that needed the plaster treatment as well.

The end of the section here and also the end of the lift out section, are painted dark brown so that if the two sections separate slightly, you won`t be presented with a little section of white poking through.

Once we start adding retaining walls and grass and foliage, these areas will take on a softened appearance.

You may have noticed that I still need to paint the last section of rail there in the end of the bay platform. That will happen once the ballast next to the track is completed ( it`s drying as we speak ). It`s part of the lift out section.

So there we are folks.......I`ve packed it in for the day.

    G`day Folks and thanks Richard,

Well I got to the green stuff tonight.......the softening up process begins.

The glue is still drying and we are in the early stages for this area.

Track side ballast has also been added

And the little bare patch at the end of the adjoining section has been grassed over

So there we are folks......the glue is still drying and we`ll let it do it`s thing........and as they always say......." Everything will look better in the morning ".

    Thanks Tony,

Well I just ventured out into the shed to check the grass......Looks OK........so I vacuumed off the excess and placed the section on the layout to take some pics.

I think I will need some undergrowth on this section to better hide the join.???

Anyway, here is an overall pic to give it some context.

And from the far end a bit closer up this time

The view up the road leading away from the station

With the station building in place

That join really needs some work.......not happy with that at the moment.

And finally looking back the other way.

Well folks, that`s how things are looking the morning after the night before.

    Have a nice day....

Looks great Gormo, very nice job.:thumbs::thumbs:

Can I suggest for the concealing of the join, to remove the drop in section and apply PVA to the side/edge (approximately 10mm or 1/2" down from top) of the drop in piece and then static grass this. You could possibly do the same for the fixed section as well, paint the sides (PVA) and apply static grass.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Richard and Gary,

Gary I`ll give your suggestion some thought.....thing is the whole section has tightened up a smidgen since it`s been plastered etc......so I`ll have to determine where it`s tightened up before I potentially tighten it some more with glue and grass.

More thought required and investigation.........thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi Gormo

In my earlier comment I forgot to ask you about the station people. They look so reminiscent of what a British (and indeed Australian) traveller should be. When I surf the web I tend to come across brightly coloured people rather than the normal commuter. Hints on where they are available please?

    Needing assistance

    G`day Richard,

I tend to mix and match HO and OO figures on my layout. After all, real people come in all shapes and sizes, so why not model people.???

Therefore, when using the two different scales, the range available to me opens up considerably. It just requires careful consideration when placing them on the layout.

Now I am using mostly a mixture of Bachmann Scenecraft ( OO gauge ) and Noch ( HO ) gauge. Noch in particular, has an interesting and varied range, including aged, rotund people, which makes for a believable cameo sometimes. I have also used Preiser on occasion to great effect. Noch and Preiser are European style figures but with careful selection they will fit in quite nicely to an English or Australian scene. As an example, I have used Noch Swiss railway station staff on my station at GCJ. They just seem to fit right in. I think when you see these figures in place, the eye tends to accept them as part of the furniture. Mind you, I am not as pedantic as some modellers.???

I would say 99% of my purchases of figures would have been at Woodpecker Model Railways in Pendle Hill. They have a comprehensive range of figures in all three brands.

I tend to not buy figures online because the postage equates to about 1/3rd of the price of the figures. So a trip to Woodpecker, in the end ,works out to be better value and also you have the opportunity to impulse buy......:avatar:

Bergs have a reasonable range as well, but you will pay top dollar there from Peter.....sorry Pete....the rents are high in Parramatta.

Hope that helps Richard........if I`ve missed something, don`t hesitate to ask again.

    Well G`day Folks,

Apologies to all for my lack of participation on the forum of late.

I have a house full of family guests who arrived a couple of weeks before Christmas and won`t be leaving until about the 2nd of Jan 2018. It`s my daughter, son in law and grandson and they are from Queensland.......nearly 1,000kms from us....so we don`t see them as often as we would like to, so whilst they are here, my time will be devoted to entertaining them. I`ve just about run out of old jokes to use on my grandson but he still laughs even though he`s heard them before.....he`s a good lad.

Anyway they`ve gone out today so I`ve stolen some time in the shed.

Santa........which reminds me....I keep typing Sanata ????......I think I`m losing the plot...??????

Santa has been good to me this year and brought me some shinies from the North Pole.

No.1 on the list is a Hornby BR 0-6-2 N2 Class loco. It`s a second hand model and runs like a dream. I am going to change the couplings to small Bachmaans as the current larger type use NEM fittings and the front coupling suffers from what I call NEM droop. The drop down bar on the coupling fouls on the rails when passing through points.....most annoying because it is poorly made.

Anyway I would have changed the couplings regardless, so not to worry because everything else is fine apart from a bit of a clean on the body.

You can see it needs a bit of a clean and I`ve removed the front coupling hook.

The other railway thingy that Santa brought me was a set of Bachmaan factory workers to compliment my factory complex crossing the entry to the train room.

There are six figures in the set. Four workers, a supervisor and a foreman.

Three of the workers have gone over to Union Mills Carpet factory where they are busily employed with loading and unloading the GWR delivery truck.

I made up some ropes to compliment the scene and the vehicle and the crates I`ve had for some time now.

As we move to the other side of the complex we find a van from the coach builders pulling away. Gormo Eng. Dept. supplies custom made parts for their company, so their employees are regular visitors to the site. The other vehicle belongs to Mr. Richard Portman, a sales rep from Bamford Industries. Gormo Engineering buys machine tools from them and in return they use Gormo Engineering to sub contract out some of their smaller engineering projects.

Here you can see Mr. Portman engaging in business conversation with Gormo Engineering shop foreman Cyril Ferris

Choosing parts for a major project in the workshop

Yes the measurements are correct.....we`ll use this one.

So there we are folks....... a very long winded story about fitting figures to a scene.

Now we also have a video to compliment the above.
