Thanks for your concern 1bcamden, But yes......I`m OK.......just settling back into the routine. The thing with YouTube now is that with regular Gormo`s Sheds popping up from time to time, I guess the subscribers must wonder what`s going on if nothing appears for some time. The trouble is though I am reluctant to broadcast my intentions for all the world to see in case an undesirable element picks up on it. I don`t doubt my subscribers at all........but unfortunately the YouTube channel is public and open to any opportunist who wants to blow in and have a look. I am amazed sometimes at how stupid some people can be........broadcasting their holiday dates and destinations all over Facebook etc.. You might as well leave the key in the front door for the bad guys. I have an idea for the next video........it was planned in Toowoomba and will feature the rail museum there. It`s only very small, but these guys run on donations and are punching above their weight, so I`ll give them a promotion. They were gracious enough to stay back past their allotted closing time just to show us around.......nice people.... Gormo
Yes Toto..........I could easily allow myself to slip into oblivion on Stadbroke Island. I`ve got some more arty farty`s I will post but I`m on the wrong PC at the moment. Maybe later.? Gormo
Nice pics Gormo, then you come home to the cold ! Sounds like you had a great time. Thunderbolt's Way is a great drive and Gloucester is a lovely town. If you had of headed west from Barrington, you could have stopped in at Moonan Flat ! Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Gary, Didn`t get to Moonan this time. The cold well..???????......Armidale was minus 4 overnight and Glen Innes was minus 7........so we were becoming acclimatised as we headed home. By the way....I stopped outside your shop in Armidale and took a pic .....I saw that and thought..." I`ve got to snap that for Gary " Anyway some more arty farty pics. Gormo
... Gazman Clothing...? Must be that fake Gazman.... I certainly don't possess any style for clothing ! The grass through the sand and the shell are nice pics. I like that glimmer of sunshine radiating from the shell, nice capture. Cheers, Gary.
I felt like telling those people they had ripped off your name Gary, but common sense prevailed..... Gormo
Well Toto... My middle name happens to be Vincent ( after my father )......so Vincent Van Gormo..??????.... V.V. Gormo
Brian Vincent. Has a bit of a flow to it. Maybe your surname should have been flux. I know ...... what the flux he talking about,
G`day folks, We had a big family gathering on the weekend at my sons place. It was his birthday (38....old bugger ) and of course extended family and friends attended also.....it was a good day......especially for the little grandsons, as it was their first venture into late night parties. They were visibly stuffed the next day but they will bounce back as little ones always do. Anyway one of the family from my son`s wife`s side of the family, brought along some old train bits and pieces from his Dad especially for me. His Dad and Mum are downsizing and moving interstate, so they are having a big clear out before they leave. So I have graciously accepted a box full of bits and pieces to tinker with. It`s funny, it`s almost as much fun as getting something brand new but with the added challenge of repairs and restoration, which appeals to me anyway. So I have made an update video which covers most of the items in the box and shows how I`ve dealt with them so far. Gormo
Hi Gormo What an interesting box of goodies, particularly the points which if you look at the cost of Peco plus motor you are looking at over $50 a piece! Very nice running from those oldies and just like most of their owners, age does not necessarily indicate any lack of ability. On the out of gauge bit, and having been caught many times before, I now check all new arrivals before anything else. Amazing how many, including locos, are too tight or loose. PS with those new finds does this show a growing interest in Australian models? Cheers and happy modelling Richard
G`day Richard, No I think I will stick with the British models........I am fairly well committed to them now.....it`s a bit late to change trains on this journey. Gormo
Excellent Gormo. That's a great box of bit's n' pieces you have acquired. If I remember correctly, the old Hornby GM1 (streamlined diesel) was moulded in that maroon plastic then had the silver applied. Probably not a lot can be done to bring the shine back without damaging the silver. This would be the Hornby train set the loco and coaches were from : http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=360 Cheers, Gary.
Ah Thanks Gary, That certainly looks like the same set. I think I still need to fiddle with the wheels a little. I think the floating center wheels are floating a bit too much. Gormo
Like Richard I thought there might be glimmer of more local modelling coming soon, maybe a reverse visit of an Aussie loco to over there even. I have that exact same Hornby Commonwealth Railways set, headlight still works blindingly well on mine. On the gauge issue it is my theory that Hornby locos of that era were under gauge to deal with the tight curves found in basic train sets. I remade one of these layouts and most of the Hornby units run fine on it, but it has no points. When testing my new layout, Gundah Junction, which is all electrofrog streamline points, large and medium radius, the older Hornbys kept jumping at the points. I measured the back to back, and found them tight. Adjusted them out and now they run through the points nicely. Then last weekend I ran the adjusted Hornby locos on the tight curve layout and they would occasionally jump out on a corner, the locos with the original wheel spacings did not. With the Maroon colour I would say that the current colour, at least how it comes up under camera, would be about right for a few years of sun damage, dark colours in the Aussie sun do not usually fare well, maybe just weather the locos and keep all the detail, they are quite nice. I find those Lima couplers really awkward, and so does the 6 year old. He goes alright with the tension lock ones, but Kadees work very well for him, push them together and they work, or just lift one up and they come. Cheers Tony
