Just as it says. A Gresley NER K3 mixed traffic loco on its way from ACE. I have a couple of their kits and they look ok. Not to say they will build ok but I think they will be worth the fight at the price they are pitched at.

I will be very interested in how you get on with this and the P2 (2-8-2) as ACE are pretty much the only game in town for these particular locos these days - although Steve Hoyle of NER Days would do a P2 if I asked. And they are both on my list.

    So will I Rob :avatar:

There will be a bigvswitch to kit building after Dundee and Elgin are out the way. I will he concentrating on both builds and commissions. ( a couple at least ) as I want my loco shed module started later next year but need to have some inhabitants for it. I want at least a couple of professionally built big boys and hopefully a couple of the easier ( ) builds done by myself. Whether that's a couple of Jim's kits or may be one of the others that I have picked up. Time will tell. I have at least two time periods I can cover in steam between LNER / LMS / BR....... take your pick.:avatar:

mmmm, looking at the D29, D34, D49 or K4 myself, the D29 looking as the favorite although the Dunalistair 1 could also be an option, decisions decisions :avatar:

I am glad that you mentioned the two time periods because Edward Thompson rebuilt all the P2's between January 1943 and December 1944 to A2/2 Pacifics...

if you have them, I would certainly recommend building a few of Jim's kits just as he describes before tackling anything that might be questionable. Building up both skills and confidence will go along way to helping you overcome challenges encountered in some of your more exotic kits.

Absolutely Rob. As you say ..... Jim's kits fit where they are meant to so are always a good start and confidence builder. My lowly nellie is suspended in a bag as we speak after soldering just two parts on. She is first for completion prior to me threatening any of the others into a petrified state. :avatar: I'm gagging to also try out the resistance soldering iron out for both tacking and soldering some of the smaller pieces.

    Cheers

    and the photo's ......

    and the box ......

pre-rolled boiler castings and brass rod etc.......

first of the brass etches ......

    and the rest .......

and finally the chassis etches .....

    and that is your lot.

Again, I think they are good enough as such, a little thin and not maybe as builder freindly as other more expensive kits I've seen but I think I just mentioned the magic word, " expense " or in this case the lack of. again .... very reasonably priced.

    cheers
