Well, after I'd been round the shed and seen the real thing yesterday, I came across this cracking model in the traders marquee, and couldn't resist! Attached files
.....and that's just the box! It was a mint unused example, and when I unboxed it, it had brackets fitted underneath to mount on a display stand. Cost me £90, so not cheap, but I think it looks even better than the colour scheme on the real thing. Always was a sucker for Southern stock! Keith. Attached files
Nice looking loco Keith A special edition as well Was probaly a lot more that £90 when first released so a good pick up I would say
I succumbed to temptation at our recent exhibition here: Branchline, a local model railway shop in Croydon, Melbourne, had several reasonably priced locomotives and wagons from Bachmann and Hornby on sale. I bought a second Hornby 700 class 0-6-0 in early BR guise (as 30693). At $AUS145, that equated to approximately £75 - which is very competitive with buying straight from the UK, especially when considering that our Australian shops have to pay a middle-man too. Those 'Arthurs' are very nice models. I managed a ride behind 'Sir Lamiel' in SR livery back in 1984 when it was running on the 'Scarborough Spa Express' circuit. I have now managed to get one of each major variation that Hornby have released now: Urie and MAunsell cabs, two types of bogie tender and a six-wheeler - all superb runners.
There's one on Ebay UK at present, same NRM special edition, mint boxed as was mine, but they want £150 for it, so I reckon mine definitely comes into the 'Bargain' category at £90. Youchoos does sound for this using the MX648 chip, but it's a 'shoehorn' job to get it into the loco, so looks like it'll be another 'out with the 8 pin socket, wire it in direct' setup. It'll have to wait a bit though, as I've other projects like my 2nd Class 33 and other stuff awaiting, plus just started a bathroom/bedroom conversion for Daughter.......the things I do when the kids come with a "Dad, can you just..........." job! At 69, I must be crackers taking on jobs like this, but you gotta help your kids, haven't you? No peace for the wicked, Eh! Keith.
Hi Keith, nice pick with Sir Lamiel , I saw the real one pass by while filling up with juice at Sainsburys a few years ago, wasn,t expecting her, she was in Southern green at the time, beautifull. I was away at a rally for the GCR weekend otherwise I would have joined you, the rally venue is changing for next year so hopefully the weekends won,t clash. Cheers, Pete.
