Hi all as the team have been foo... ? .... sil... ? ... kind enough to invite me to be a mod I owe it to offer some background information. Where to start... well I was born/brung up within 1 mile of the Quorn & Woodhouse Great Central station and spent many hours scuffing my knees hanging over the bridge parapet to have my face grubbed up by smoke cinders and steam. Coming from lowly farming stock train sets were beyond my parents budget so I used to visit my cousin who originally had a Tri-ang Princess Elizabeth set prior to a big Hornby layout. Move on 60 years Army/Marriage/Kids etc (the usual story) and in 2014 I attended a model rail exhibition with my current wife and mentioned my desire to own a train set 'so get one' was the reply 'but do it right'. A Tri-ang collection and 1 'learning curve' later brought me to a forum from whence I came here and am currently building a 260cm x 25cm 'Plonk' St Michael (nee San Miguel) in OO gauge running via a Gaugemastet dc controller as that's ample electrickery for me ... oi you at the back wake up!... finally as I moved to Spain I had to bring everything I needed with me; Tim Horn baseboards, Lcut buildings, Airfix rolling stock and Airfix/Mainline motive power. There that's it...? ... the goat..?... well more of that later. Ian
Sounds like the perfect upbringing ....... At least .... Familiar. I got a train set but it never went much beyond what came with it. A class 47 and eventually if I remember right ....... Duchess of Sutherland. Don't know what happened to that. Welcome to the team Ian. Toto
Cheers Toto Aptly enough I've now got a few Tri-ang train sets 1 x express set, 1 x flying Scotsmen set, 2 x Lord of the Isle sets, a Freightmaster set and 1 x Steeple cab and 1 x EM2 with about 40ft of track and a large roof terrace... mmm y'know what I might just set it up and take some photos, they were crude and the track and wheels will need cleaning but a bit of nostalgia and real 'playing with trains' eh Ian
Ahhhhh My first train set was a Triang freight set, 08 plus two bogie bolsters, one with two 20ft frieghtliner Containers on the other with 3 commer vans, very patriotic in red, white and blue. With an oval of super 4 track. Next up was a Triang Hornby Night mail set, Class 37, Mk2 brake, Mk1 sleeper and a working mail coach. 40 years later, and I'm playing with trains again , and enjoying it - apart from when having to build buildings. Welcome to the mods Ian, its not as bad as it seems - until tom hands out home work. Paul
Hi Paul with Triang the detail's missing but the nostalgic play value huge... talking of Toto ...... Ian
