I understand that if you get to airdrying clay early enough a wet finger rubbed over it will "disappear" the cracks.

That is true, but when you get day time temperatures of 36*C plus, you have to be on your game. Majority of the time, the cracks will be covered up with other scenic scatters, soils etc. ;)

    Cheers, Gary.

Two new items have arrived at Jay Dub North Yard...!

One Broadway Limited (BLI) EMD NW2 switching locomotive in Pennsylvania Rail Road livery and one Walthers Canadian Pacific reefer...

The CP reefer... Not a bad model at all. Cost $16.00 USD (approx. $22.00 AUD)

and the EMD NW2, DCC with Paragon3 Sound and Operation System with Authentic Sounds and Prototypical Operation in both DCC and DC.

It comes complete with all the appropriate paperwork and generous soft foam packaging...

I haven't had a chance to run the loco, but when I do, I'll post up a short video.

    Cheers, Gary.

Interesting thing about the cab lighting is that once you get over speed step 3, the cab lights go out and when you roll to a complete stop, on they come again. It is a great loco and it will get a decent workout come the weekend of the 18th-19th May at the Hills Model Railway Exhibition.

I had to purchase this loco as my other orange GP10 came to a complete stop on the last day of the Canberra Exhibition. All the functions work great, lights and sound but the loco does not move...
Maybe a broken wire to the motor, not that I could find one when I lifted the body shell off... :scratchchin:

    Cheers, Gary.

Well today is the day that I pack the car up again for another exhibition. All locos are running fine, except one... This is the new NW2 switcher that I bought recently from the States. the loco ran erratically again on the layout, so I removed it, pulled out the rolling road and it started to run smooth..., before starting to play up again... Not sure if I would buy another Broadway Limited loco now. On the rolling road it started running fine before it started to trip my NCE handset. I'd say there is a problem with the decoder itself. The older Bachmann locos I have are running smoother than this loco. I think this loco will be staying at home for quite some time, maybe even send it back as it is a right PITA ! I was hoping to run all my Pennsy locomotives this weekend and not a mix of different railway companies.

Atleast I have a six other locos to choose from, three with sound and three without. Oh well, should still have some fun...

    Cheers, Gary.

Apologies Toto, I never did reply to your question.

Basically the loco has knuckle couplers, identical to Kadees. I'll use the method of neodymium magnets buried in between the sleepers to uncouple (at home) and a long thin skewer when exhibiting. Always difficult to stop right above the magnets at exhibitions as you tend to have someone chatting in your ear !

    Cheers, Gary.

A few weeks back I redesigned the track plan for this layout, I think this is the forth incarnation of the layout ! Whilst I couldn't sit down too long over the weekend due to my back flaring up again, I decided to tackle this layout.

This is what I have planned...

So, out with a spatula to remove the upper layer of insulation foam.

Track had been pulled up earlier to allow me to start relaying from the peninsula end and work my way around the layout towards the bridge. Some of you may have noticed in my last post in my O gauge layout thread that I had purchased another left hand curved point. This is where it will be used.

This new design allows me to operate the layout with different industries. I will still include the saw mill/saw dust processing mill, a grain elevator, a fuel siding and two, maybe three other industries.

    Cheers, Gary.

Great thread with plenty of info...
I found a product called Rapid 10 in Bunnings which I use for rapid plaster patching in maintenance. Dries quick, good for up to 5mm application without cracking and easily sandable when set. Dry mix that keeps. Can add oxides and pigments to colour when mixing.
    The weathered roster looks amazing.
Overall great result on the module and its expanding...win win.
    Cheers for sharing.
