We started the baseboard yesterday, then we glued down the printed track plan. Today we laid all the track. Dad will be busy tonight doing all the wiring and soldering. :p:p

    Here are some photos...

Great progress. Should have had you doing the track on the R & GLR. Keep up the excellent work.

    Cheers

An excellent start Jack. Take your time and don't try and hurry things. You have years ahead of you yet, not like us oldies on borrowed time.

Jack has done an excellent job today. Now it's up to me to sort out the wiring and explain to him how it all works... Hopefully Jack will have a better idea than myself ! :(

    Cheers, Gary.

A chip off the old block, we all know the speed Gary works at, looks like Jack's going to be the same.

Remember to test the layout out before progressing beyond the wiring (that is dont forget to play trains - thats an order)

Dad has been busy with the wiring, but it isn't finish yet. :whatever: He told me that we need a control panel, so we printed a track diagram in colour and mounted it to a framed board. It still need to have the holes cut out of it, to fit the off/on switches and push buttons we bought earlier in the week.

All these wires are for the track sections.

All the switches for track sections, push buttons for the points and the point motors.

    The control panel.

    Hi Chris,

Jack is off sleeping now, so I'll answer the question. After printing and prior to gluing to the panel, we gave it a couple of coats of clear matt sealer. I repeated the process after fixing to the panel.

    Cheers, Gary.

Very nice panel - simple design hiding all the complexity of the magic below

Jack you may have to let your Dad have a play - I think he's earned it.

    Hi Jack,
I'm well impressed with this layout. the control panel is the bees knees. Looks like you have a good stock of electrical switches there.
If your dad is doing the wiring ......... let him test it first when finished. If he looks in the slightest bit nervous at switch on ........ dive behind the settee. :avatar:
    really terrific.
    cheers
