I have wired up an LED (which works and has a fitted resistor) using the Blue and White wires from the decoder. The loco still runs OK but no light? Do I have to program a CV to do this and if so which and to what value please??

Have you wired it the right way round Ron? Try reversing the connections, if no joy, I'll discuss it with you at the GCR event tomorrow.

Normally the decoders are pre-programmed for the lights to work directionally, Blue being common to both LED's, White to forward LED, Yellow to reverse. I recall you were using a Hattons decoder which I've not tried, but normally, lighting is already programmed to work without needing alterations.

Using a Digitrax decoder on a Class 59 loco, i thought it would be quite straightforward unless there is a problem with the decoder??

I recently watched a youtube video where a chgap was installing LEDs and they did not work at all. The fault was the decoder the wrong way round...

    Cheers, Gary.

Hi Ron,cv 49 as below should be set to 0, if that does not work then set it to 16. (I assume you have disconnected the LED and tested it again just to make sure its not blown?)Hope this helpsKim

Well, bulb is OK! Tried the CV settings to no effect both CV49 and CV50. As it is a Hornby loco I also tried turning the 8 pin plug around. The loco still worked but no light? I'm stumped!!

Very strange Ron, one last thing you could try, remove the white wire and replace it with the yellow wire, see if that works. (Is the resistor on the blue wire wired to the longer leg of the LED ?)

Will try the yellow wire. The Blue wire is on the restsistor, the only thing I've noticed today is that the LED flashed when i fit the 8 pin plug into the socket on the loco??
    Thanks for your help Kim:)

Hi Ron, this bit of info makes me think the fault is in the socket, possibly a dry joint or loose wire ( white or blue, or both) Ive had this fault several times.
If you have another loco with a 8 pin socket you could prove the decoder is working correctly by installing it and testing it, which would then confirm that the socket is at fault.
    We'll crack it mate

Will try that. It's too hot here to go in the shed, we're having a 30'C heatwave and it's 39'C in the shed at the moment!! We'll crack it !!

Wouldn't be the first time Hornby has wrongly wired the socket! If all else fails you could cut off the decoder plug, remove the stock Hornby wiring and hard wire the decoder in.
    Keith.

Well connected the yellow wire instead of the white and it works (in reverse!) I'll go through CV's and see what I can do!

I take it that the fault is with the Hornby Quality Control Department...., not what you have done...

    Cheers, Gary.
