Hi All Gary - the structure is 25cm wide. Its not set up like bridges where you can easily build long structures. You would have to kit bash the structure to increase the width - going higher would be easier - just print out extra floors, supports, lift column etc. However, it wouldn't be that difficult to make it wider. You could easily double the width by building two in one, shuffle the lift shaft and modify the top print layer. The top layer has a grey square indicating location of lift shaft to put an extra piece on. If Scalescenes has parking lots in their scratch building materials this would be no problem to fix. Airbrushing and weathering the surface would work as well. Cheers Cameron
Hi All, Further progress. Here is the completed garage. I am happy with the overall result but a few lapses in terms of my paying attention to all the instructions and/or lack of clarity on how things are added. A few more photo's would be helpful - that is not a criticism of Scalescenes. I am satisfied with the construction compared to previous models I have built. Sadly you wont get to see the front of the model as it will be facing the wall above the tunnel entrance. I need to complete a back piece mural and glue it over the back as the model is obviously meant to be viewed from this side. I have painted the back drop. I have included two photo's one with flouro's and LEDs and one with LEDs. I used a small roller and very light blue mix from Bunnings. Two coats and done. Gormo - thanks for the tip about the reflection from the backscene using LEDs making things brighter. I just need to add 2 rows (I have spares from my earlier purchase) to extend to the entrance to the layout). It makes a big difference. Cameron
Hi All, That day has arrived when I could open my new shiny. Here is a short video of it on the layout. The building phase is about to ramp up - still researching ballast type etc. to use around the station and the entrance tunnel under the carpark. regards Cameron
Happy Birthday Cameron. Don't purchase your ballast just yet, I'll introduce you to Matt from Matts Ballast at Thornleigh. He has some excellent product. I have used his ballast and gravels on all of my layouts and it is quality ! Cheers, Gary.
Thanks everyone. Its an easy runner! Gary. Will do. I will chat to you about that at the show. Cameron
Hi All, After gluing and frivolous posting today I have completed the bridge supports for the carpark and am trialing my design for the reailway. The carpark still needs the mural on the back. But I have put a road or where I would like a road down the side. I will be using the low relief mainstreet buildings to go down the road. The signal box will probably go where the block of wood is. I forgot I had the head torch still on. There will be wall supporting the carpark on the right which will turn into a retaining wall following the road. Cheers Cameron
Hi Gary, This is what I was thinking: I was thinking of the Goulburn street car park above the city circle tunnels. On the back of the carpark, I was going to put a mural something like this. I was trying to approximate the feel of something like this. I get that most of model is unseen - I am looking to have a build up area around the station. Well there isn't much room. Nothing is set yet. I am thinking about building some cardboard mock ups to give me and idea of how things might look. I can turn the carpark around and have road feed it and the street running parallel to the station. I was looking at Industry Lane and how you laid out the buildings and doing something similar (angular from the pub to near the culvert). I am getting better at building Scalescene's buildings. While they are simple to build they require a little bit of massaging (which I am getting better at) to produce a quality building. I am happy to consider other ideas. I was planning on having a chat to you about it over next weekend. Cheers Cameron
Toto Yes it is. Still need to fix some details and couplers. Do you know what type of kadees fit into the sockets Ill post pictures through the week A question about the round white circles on the front of these type of engines. What are they? intake lids? Tags? Anybody? Cameron
Check out the Kadee web site, no's 18,19 and 20 types. The White circles are placed (the same as lamps in the old days!) to indicate what kind of train the loco is pulling, ie: a central high up disc denotes an ordinary passenger train etc.. it can be found on the web, try here: http://www.uksteam.info/gwr/hcodes.htmor here: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/3-sigs/bellhead.htm Cheers Ron
I can bring a selection of Kadee 18, 19 & 20s to the exhibition next weekend for you to play around with. As you do not have curves (extreme) on the layout, I would probably go with 18s. You may/will have to bend the trip pin up slightly to clear points and/or uncoupling magnets. Cheers, Gary.
I would think that you would not go wrong with kadee 18's ( short shank ) or 19 ( longer shank ) kaddee's but I'm sure a more author active answer will duper we'd mine. looks good by the way. Cheers Toto
Progress Report: I have been making progress and I am getting ready to put the buildings up. I will then ballast then glue the buildings, retaining walls, bridges when I am done. Here are a few photos: In the photo below, I needed to alter the platform as when I first built it I did not accurately cut the platform width which caused rubbing and annoyance. So I fixed it and hot glued it into place. The nails helped hold things in place. Supports in place Platform lids cut and placed for checking Platform surfaces surfaced and glued into place I am halfway through construction of the scalescenes large station building. I am also in the gluing stages of a parcel depot similar to what Gary created for his Townstreet plank. His design there helped me solve a few design conundrums on this layout. Thanks Gary There will be a few minor differences in door and window placements, (no different centre section). There will be an awning. After this I will be building the bridge and retaining wall and the road surfaces for the carpark and building. Cheers Cameron
One final thought, Toto, Paul, Gary, Ian, Chris, or any other moderators with the "power" Would you be able to change the name of this thread to "Lola's End" I have had that name for a while. Lola is the name of my dog and what Lola wants Lola by stealth cunning and just plain naughtiness, gets/takes when I am not looking. Thanks
Looking Good Cameron I'm sure Toto will change the name for you. I don't think I'm turned on for name change in the Mods Like the Name for the Station. There is a guy who has a Formula 5000 Race car a "Lola" Chassis and he has a sticker on the car that Says "What Lola wants Lola Gets". So it's definitely in the name hopefully it works for the Model Railway and you can get a few more Shinys through management
