Back from B & Q. Lovely fresh ply cut to size in shop, most of it anyway. Maybe half a dozen small cuts to do. The base boards should be rattled together by tomorrow night.

I have all the track apart from the double slip which his nibs is donating from his stock. ( worked a flanker there eh ! ). 9mm Ply and the usual softwood frame work. 28" x 54" main baseboards 5"'s deep to match the traverser depth.

The through track at a 10 and a half inch centre from the front edge to suit the traverser indexing and the rest works away from that datum point.

    easy !

Thinking forward, the carriage / wagon works is a big build. A few thoughts ..... Do I try and build it in dismantle able sections, what willI use in order to give it strength given its size and the fact that it has to be able to stand up to transportation.

I still like the idea of a cladding as opposed to brick or stone. Maybe even a mixture of the two. The part towards the rear of the layout being the older original structure and the part to the front being a slightly more modern extension. The building is not to be a front runner for architect of the year.

I also ( before I start it ) need to try and get something to compare it with to be able to scale off in order to get the overall dimensions correct, especially if a pitched roof is used. The area to the right of the wagon works( along the back end ) needs more ideas as well but I think maybe a timber workshop ( as Paul suggested ) and maybe a small fabrication works may fit well in there.

I've got a bit of time as the baseboards and someinitialground cover will be first ( as well as track laying, electrics and all the usual stuff.

Just need to get started now.

    Cheers

    Toto

Mothers day has taken over today so far. I'm hoping to sneak into the shed tonight and get at least one baseboard cattled. SWMBO is out getting treated to a lunch at Craigy farm. The nosh is good there. I could be dining alone. :avatar: Never mind. I hear the timber calling me ...........

hopefully some progress pictures later tonight ........ now ...... back to the mutt.

    cheers

Had an hour or so in the shed and got some reasonable progress made on baseboard 1.

Made the two side pieces to start off

    and the lid goes on.

    from the other side

one of the ends go on .......

this one needs to wait as I wasted the bit of ply that I had cut for this ....... don't ask how.

anyway, the first end from the outside.....

and the last one for the moment. I'll hopefully get the other end done tomorrow night when its a bit earlier. The table saw gets a bit noisy for using outside at 8.00pm when the neighbours kids are in their kip ........ or should be.

The target is to have the baseboards finished by next weekend. I'll also install the Track Bus wiring which will be wired in 2.5mm2 twin and earth cable ( without the earth ) I'll lay the track down loose in order to work out exactly what spacing I need and get the datum point fixed for the traverser. that way his nibs can crack on a bit further with his bridge build.

I also need to get the wagon works building coordinates worked out for entry points and the motorised turntable and get a card mock up started. Happy with the start tonight and have a bit fire in my belly again. ( not a curry this time )

    cheers for now

Build the wagon works out of foam core. It's light weight, strong, durable and you can glue embosed card or styrene to it.

    Cheers, Gary.

ps, have they started planting new forests for all the wood you have used in the last 4-5 years ?? :avatar::avatar:
